CITY COUNCIL APPROVES AQUIRING 103 NORTH NELSON TO TEAR IT DOWN

Crookston City Council

The Crookston City Council met on Monday evening in the Crookston City Hall council chambers.

103 NORTH NELSON
The City of Crookston told the owner of a home at 103 North Nelson that she had 30 days to repair the home or they were going to have to tear down the home at the last city council meeting. At Monday’s meeting, they talked about the next step in the process. “That is a home here in Crookston that is in a dilapidated condition. We made an offer to the owner, which was accepted, so now we have acquired the title,” said Reynolds. “There will be some title checks, and there will be some title opinions to make sure we have a good title and see if there are any other impediments to the title. Then we will acquire the home and do with it. We will probably tear it down, and it will be a vacant lot for housing.”

EASEMENT REQUESTS FOR OTTERTAIL POWER COMPANY APPROVED
The Ottertail Power Company was looking to acquire a property owned by the City of Crookston to get additional electricity to the wood’s addition.
In addition to this request, Ottertail Power Company made another request. “There was a request from Ottertail to install fiber-optic underneath or over the property that the city owns near the city lagoon,” said Reynolds. “Both of these were approved just to accommodate Ottertail and to service our city better.”
The council approved the two requests.

REZONING AN AREA OF THE NORCROSS SUBDIVISION
The city was approached by a lender regarding a stretch of four homes within the City of Crookston Norcross Subdivision, where the homes were originally zoned industrial. In order to get a loan approved, the homes needed to be in a residential zone. “In an industrial zone, you don’t necessarily have the ability to rebuild, so for the homes would be destroyed in whatever manner, the security for the bank would be gone.”  There was a petition sent out to the City (after the homeowners gave consent) for this rezoning from light industrial to ultimately residential one and two-family homes.” The council approved the rezoning.

PASSING OF WAYNE MELBYE
Everyone that attended this meeting had the opportunity to pay their respects to Wayne Melbye. Every council member gave their condolences to the Melbye family and showed respect for Wayne for his contributions to the community.
