CROOKSTON AMERICAN LEGION ASKS YOU TO WEAR PURPLE ON APRIL 15

The Crookston American Legion Auxiliary, Nels T Wold, Unit 20 asks all citizens of Crookston to wear purple on Monday, April 15 in HONOR OF ALL MILITARY CHILDREN.

April was established as the Month of the Military Child in 1986. Caspar Weinberger, Defense Secretary at the time, was responsible for this awareness initiative. Since then, the Department of Defense has continued to honor and commemorate this month each year for military-connected children.

Purple Up! Day is a special occasion held on April 15 each year. It’s a day for communities to come together and show their support and gratitude for military children. These resilient kids demonstrate incredible strength and make sacrifices as part of military families.

The color purple was chosen because it represents the combined colors of each branch of service.  The Dandelion is the official flower of military children because it symbolizes happiness, joy, perseverance, endurance, and hope.
