The Crookston American Legion Nels T. Wold Post 20 baseball team got a walk-off victory in the first game of the season to win 5-4 and then cruised to an 8-0 victory in the second game to sweep Stephen-Argyle in the season opener for both teams at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.
GAME ONE –
Stephen-Argyle started the game with back-to-back walks and a 2 rbi double from Dimitri Oberg for a 2-0 lead.
Neither team scored until Stephen-Argyle added a run in the top of the fifth inning behind a couple of singles for a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Crookston got on the board with a run after an Austin Trinkle single and back-to-back walks to George Widman and Alex Longoria to load the bases. After a strikeout Jacob Miller knocked in a run on a sacrifice to bring Crookston within a 3-1 deficit.
In the top of the sixth inning, Stephen-Argyle’s Ty Winge had a two-out single and came into score on a Jackson Kekke hit for a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Crookston responded with a big inning. Cade DeLeon walked, Cade Coauette singled and DeLeon scored on an error. Carter Bruggeman walked and advanced to second base on a passed ball. Widman had a sacrifice and a run scored followed by another run scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game at 4-4.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Crookston’s Miller reached on an error and ended up scoring the game-winning run on a wild pitch for a 5-4 victory.

GAME TWO
Crookston got things going in the bottom of the first inning when Gunner Gunderson reached on an error, stole second and third base and scored on an error. With two outs, Brooks Butt reached on an error and scored for a 2-0 lead.
In the second inning, Austin Trinkle singled and stole second and third base and scored on a Cade Coauette hit for a 3-0 lead. Alex Longoria doubled to score a run for a 4-0 lead.
In the third inning, Crookston added two more runs with a hit from Jackson Demarais, Trinkle reached on an error, Justin Lindgren walked and a few batters late Crookston led 6-0.
In the fourth inning, Alex Longoria had a rbi triple and later scored. Cade DeLeon reached and another run scored for an 8-0 lead.
Stephen-Argyle wasn’t able to score and Crookston completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory.
Crookston improves to 2-0 on the year. Stephen-Argyle drops to 0-2.
