Crookston Baseball takes down Hillsboro in final game of Jim Karn Classic

The Crookston Pirate Baseball team successfully bounced back against the Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros, taking them down by a score of 5-1 in the final game of the Jim Karn Classic.

FIRST INNING-
Gavin Hlucny got the start for the Pirates, and he shut down the Burros 1-2-3 on a lineout and two groundouts.
The Pirate bats got two quick outs before Gavin Hlucny each hit singles to left field to get two on. However, a flyout to single would end the threat with no runs across.

SECOND INNING-
Hillsboro got a two-out triple in the second inning from Broedy Breidenbach, but he would be stranded there, as Ethan Lanctot made a great pick at first base to complete a groundout, ending the inning.
After two quick outs, Davin Janek was hit by a pitch to get a third two-out runner on, but a strikeout after that would quietly end the inning.

THIRD INNING –
In the third inning, the Burros got the leadoff runner on with an error, and then with one out, Tyson Leshuk drilled a ball into the gap that got stuck in the ivy, making it a ground-rule double. That would save the Pirates, as Hlucny would get two groundouts to end the inning, keeping the Burros scoreless.
With one out, Greyson Ecker doubled, and with two outs, Donarski walked to put two on. Perala was next up, and he hit a single to center. Hillsboro committed two errors in the same play, and everyone came around to score, putting the Pirates up 3-0 at the end of the inning.

FOURTH INNING-
Alexander Dufner led off the top of the fourth inning with a single for the Burros. After a force play, a walk put two runners on. The Pirate middle infield then turned a slick 4-6-3 double play, again ending the inning with no damage.
After two quick outs, the Pirates got traffic on with two away. Ethan Lanctot walked and Dexter Janek singled, then an error scored both runners, making it 5-0 Pirates as the inning concluded.

FIFTH INNING-
Hillsboro got a leadoff walk in the fifth inning, but a strikeout and three flyouts, capped off by a diving play from Dexter Janek, ended the inning.
Isaiah Donarski led off the bottom of the inning with a single to center field. After two outs, Nolan Cassavant walked to put two on, but a flyout would end the threat.

SIXTH INNING-
In the sixth, Chase Haffely led off with a triple. The next batter grounded to third, and Haffely got caught in a rundown, getting out at the plate. After the next out was recorded with a runner tagged out, a groundout would end the inning, spoiling a great chance for the Burros.
The Pirates would be set down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the inning.

SEVENTH INNING-
An error followed by a base hit from Carson Kozojed eliminated the shutout from Gavin Hlucny, but he was able to lock back in, getting a strikeout and two flyouts to end the inning, finishing a complete game and giving the Pirates a much-needed 5-1 win.

Crookston improves to 4-5 on the season, while Hillsboro falls to 6-4.
