CROOKSTON BLUE LINE CLUB YOUTH HOCKEY REPORT – FEBRUARY 6

The Crookston Blue Line Club has released their weekly youth hockey report.  Find out how all the Crookston Youth Hockey teams are doing below –

MITE WHITE
The Mite White had a busy weekend with four games.  We started off in Roseau for a doubleheader and came out with one win.  We played two good games, winning the first 14-10 and losing 15-7. We then hosted Baudette on Sunday and also split with them.  We Won the first game 9-1 and lost to their second-year team 5-3. As a coaching staff, we were very pleased with how aggressive we were.  We really started going for the puck and backchecking hard. We also got a lot of dirty goals this weekend and that is one thing we have been talking about all year.  A couple of kids crashed the net hard and got the rebound into the net. Colin Trudeau was our goalie and played well in all of them. A couple other highlights were Kai Hoppe got his first goal of the season, 5 other players had multi-goal games, and Lukas Helgeson led the way this weekend in goals.
Lukas Helgeson is our player of the week this week for the white team.  It is not because he led the team with 9 goals but that definitely helps, it is how he scored the goals.  At least half of the goals were scored by crashing the net and getting the rebound, or the second chance. Lukas was also very aggressive this week and had no trouble going after the puck.  Congratulations Lukas, keep up the good and hard work.

MITE BLUE
The Mite Blue had a great week. Starting with this last week, the Mite Blue is having one player per week play in the net. Blair Johnson was first to play Goalie, He did a great job in net and made some impressive saves. Saturday we traveled to Roseau to play a doubleheader against their two teams. We are starting to pass more and more with close to half of the goals resulting from a pass which was great to see. despite battling hard in both games but we fell short (14-10 L, & 12-8 L). Scoring up in Roseau for Crookston was Noah Chandler(2), Braxton Miller(5), Davin Janek(3), Keegan Lessard, Caden Perry(4), and Brayden Wahl(3).
On Sunday we played another doubleheader, this time at Home against Baudette’s first and second-year teams. The first game we played was against Baudette’s second-year team. They had a great goaltender and we had a tough time getting the puck in the back of the net. Defensively we are improving as a team, we are helping clear pucks in front of the net and trying to move up ice away from our goaltender. The game ended with an 11-2 loss with Davin Janek, and Brayden Wahl scoring. In the second game as soon as we started scoring some goals, we seemed to gain energy and momentum. The kids were winning the battles to the puck, then moving it up ice with speed and even passing to our teammates in front of the net. We also witness few times how we can score just by keeping our feet moving and getting around a defender, as well as taking care of those rebounds. With all of that, we got a nice win 13-3! Scoring for Crookston was Braxton Miller(5), Davin Janek(3), Keegan Lessard(3), Caden Perry(2)
This weeks Player of the week is Brayden Wahl. Brayden has consistently improved since the start of the season and has been finding the back of the net more as the season progresses. Congratulations Brayden!

8U
The 8U team played TRF 10U last Thursday evening.  It was a tough game for the girls but it brought some much-needed competition.  Crookston lost the game 2-7 with Adley Vigness being the only goal scorer. On Saturday they went to Red Lake Falls to play their second-year Mite boys team.  The girls had to play hard and aggressive to keep up with those boys. It was a great game for the girls to learn how playing their positions correctly is vital.  The 8U lost the game 3-12 with Adley Vigness and Sydney McDonald scoring for Crookston.
On Sunday the team traveled to TRF and played 2 games.  The first game was against TRF 8U. The girls played great defense and worked together as a team bringing them out on top with a score of 10-1.  Abby Lane and Rilynn Aubol both walked away from that game with a hat trick! Peyton Demarias, Sydney McDonald and Adley Vigness also scored for Crookston.
The girls had a second chance at playing the TRF 10U team on Sunday.  This game showed improvement in play compared to Thursday’s game. The team knew what they were up against and came better prepared. Listening to the coaches and learning where they needed to give the team a better chance at competing against an older team.  Crookston came up short 4-8 regardless of their best efforts. Scoring for the Pirates were Rilynn Aubol and Adley Vigness. In the net for the weekend was Hailey Fritz.
Player of the Week: Peyton Billing. Peyton joined the 8U team this year and has progressed immensely since the start of the season.  She is listening to the coaches and striving to become a better player. Her skill development has proven such potential and we are excited to see where she goes from here.  Hard work and positive attitude have made Peyton an asset to the team. Congratulations to Peyton!

SQUIRT A
Squirt A traveled up north this weekend, losing to Warroad 5-1 and LOW 8-0.
Our player of the week is Ryan Clauson.  Keep up the good work, Ryan!

SQUIRT B
Squirt B’s had 4 games this past weekend. Friday night at home against Warroad, we lost 2-8. Scoring for Crookston- Hudson Rick (1) and Wyatt Marsyla (1) with assists going to Hudson Rick and Jace Bruggeman. Saturday we played 2 Grand Forks teams. The first game Crookston won in our very first shoot-out overtime 4-3! Scoring for Crookston- Hudson Rick (3) and Cody Demarais (1) with assists going to Camren Duncan and Hudson Rick. Both Camren Duncan and Hudson Rick scoring in the shoot-out with Tony Elbinger In the net making great saves giving us the win! In the second game, Crookston lost a heartbreaking game 3-4. Scoring for Crookston- Hudson Rick (3) with assists going to Camren Duncan and Aidan Weiland. Sunday Crookston fell short in Hallock, losing 12-4. Scoring for Crookston- Hudson Rick (3) and Wyatt Marsyla (1) with assists to Hudson Rick and Camren Duncan.
Player of the week is Jaret Mattson- Jaret had a terrific weekend, he has the ability to read defensive plays very well. He will step up in a play, if missed he quickly back checks. He’s very perceptive to my requests as a defenseman. Jaret is a quiet kid on the bench but his play has a loud presence on the ice. Keep up the good work, Jaret!

10U
The 10U girls only had one game this past weekend, traveling to Fergus Falls on Saturday.  This was their third time meeting this team for the season, and for the third time, the game ended up going into overtime.  While the first two games ended up with overtime wins for Crookston, this one ended up in a tie of 1 to 1.  Emma LaPlante scored Crookston’s only goal in the second period, sending Crookston into the last period with a one goal lead.  All the girls worked hard playing this evenly matched team. Fergus scored to tie the game up in the third period.   Madi Abrams made her first appearance in the net this season and did a great job, making 12 saves.
Player of the Week:  Madi Abrams.  This was Madi’s first week at playing goalie, and she looked like she has been playing all year.  Her excitement about getting the pads this past week was fun!  Keep up the good work in practice, and it will carry over to the games.  Good job, Madi.

PEEWEE A
Congratulations to Ashton Shockman on being named Peewee A player of the week.  Ashton’s play continues to improve each week. It’s fun to see Ashton’s growth and development this season!  Good work Ashton!
This weekend the Pee Wee A team lost to Moorhead 7-1 Friday night, beat Grafton/Park River 6-2 Saturday afternoon and lost 9-0 to Bemidji Monday night.

PEEWEE B
The PeeWee’s traveled to Hallock on Friday evening in a rematch that we had been waiting for since the beginning of the season. They had beaten us in OT the second game of the season and we were jacked up to get some revenge. We were all tied up going into the 3rd and the wheels fell off a bit and we ended up on the wrong side of a 7-3 game. On Saturday we hosted TRF, TRF had beaten us quite badly the last time we played them. This time was a bit different, we were tied up late in the 3rd when they took the lead. They held off our pressure for the last 4 mins and ended up beating us by 1. This was our best-played game of the season, I think in many ways we outplayed TRF so it was great to see.
Player of the Week: Gavin Aakhus, Gavin is our player of the week again not for any one thing that Gavin does. Gavin does so many things well, he is truly one of those players that makes everyone around him a better hockey player. He brings energy to the rink every day and does it with a smile on his face. The future is bright for you Gavin!

12U
This past weekend the 12U had two away games on Saturday.  First, we took on the West Fargo Stampede 12U.  The girls had a slow start and couldn’t find the back of the net until the middle of the second period, but rallied back to a 4-3 win in overtime.  Scoring for Crookston – Cassie Solheim, unassisted, Coral Brekken assisted by Brekken Tull, Morgan Nelson assisted by Brekken Tull & Addie Fee assisted by Maddie Harbott.  Karlie Arthur was in net and recorded 16 saves.
Later that afternoon, we played Fergus Falls Otters 12U.  The girls came out strong, passed well and skated hard to a 4-1 win.  Scoring for Crookston – Kaylie Clauson assisted by Cassie Solheim, Reese Swanson assisted by Miryah Epema, Morgan Nelson Assisted by Brekken Tull and Reese Swanson unassisted.
Player of the week:  Maddie Harbott & Kaylie Clauson.  Maddie’s tenacity has been her biggest strength.  She is not afraid of going into a corner for the puck or standing somebody up at the blue line.  Kaylie’s game has progressed very nicely this season, all of her hard work is paying off.  This past weekend, her net crashing tallied her team a goal.  Keep up the great work ladies!!

BANTAM
The Pirates only game this past week was a Thursday night matchup against Thief River Falls at the Huck.  Crookston jumped out to an early lead with a goal from Blaine Andringa, followed by two quick goals from Alex Longoria. Crookston furthered their lead to 5-0 in the second with goals from Longoria and Nathan Kelly and never looked back. The final score was 8-3. Rounding out the scoring for the Pirates was goals from Longoria (2) and Jackson Demarais. Assists came from Andringa, Kelly, Thor Harbott, and Zachary Tahran. Goalie, Jaren Bailey had 36 saves for the win.
Player of the week: Zach Johnson. Zach is a dedicated player who never misses games or practices. He keeps his teammates and coaches on their toes with his sense of humor and is a joy to have in the locker room.
