The Crookston Blue Line Club has released the Crookston Youth Hockey update and the past week’s results and players of the week are below.
MITE WHITE
Mite White had a 3 game weekend and did very well. We started off with a good game against Roseau on Saturday in Hallock. We played well but lost 5-2, Bladen Melsa got the two goals for us. Next, we played LOW and came out with a 9-2 win. We played our best game of the year, we shot the puck hard, the boys spread out and called for the puck, we made good passes when we should have, we backchecked very well keeping their shots to a minimum, and were good teammates to each other. Brodie Meyer was our goalie for the first game and Joseph Burnette was the goalie for the second. Sunday despite the storm we went to RLF and played another very good game. We came away with another good victory and a very well-played game. Kegan Erickson was our goalie in RLF and helped us get the win with only giving up 2 goals. We had a lot of goal scorers this weekend, Rowan Benoit, Jacob Biermaier, Kegan Erickson, Lukas Helgeson, Tucker Lubinski, Bladen Melsa, Asher Vigness, Hunter Brownsell, Davin Janek, and Keegan Lessard all scored.
This week’s player of the week for the White is Kegan Erickson. Kegan was very aggressive in the games in Hallock and got rewarded with his first goal of the year. He skated very hard and made some great passes when he was under pressure. Kegan has been playing some really good defense this year so it was fun to see him get a goal as well. Kegan was also our goalie for a game and came up with a couple big saves to give us a win. Keep up the good work Kegan.
MITE BLUE
Mite Blue and a great week of hockey last week. On Saturday played in Hallock for their Jamboree and had two games in that Jamboree. First, we played Roseau we played an exciting game of hockey. the kids knew they were playing good and often asked what the score was. Together as a team, the kids had a lot of positive things that ultimately helped them finished the game with a 13-7 win! Scoring for Crookston was Hunter Brownsell(3), Braxton Miller(3), Blair Johnson, Keegan Lessard(2), Caden Perry(2), and Brayden Whal(2). The second game we played in the Hallock Jamboree was against Langdon. The energy and level of play carried over from the first game. We seemed to be doing everything that we have been working on, Skating hard, clearing the puck away from our net, and passing the puck to the person in front of the net. Langdon had a great goaltender but we still came home with an 8-1 win. Scoring in that game was Noah Chandler(2), Braxton Miller, Davin Janek(3), Blair Johnson, and Caden Perry(2).
On Sunday we played In Red Lake Falls. We split the Kids up, a little from the traditional blue and white team for this game. The Blue took all the older (3rd grade) boys, and a few 3rd-grade girls. We played a tough RLF (all 3rd graders) team. We played a full ice game, which was a first for a few of our players. RLF had a couple very talented players, who scored a majority of their goals. We quickly learned how important our defense was to keep the game close. Our team played much better as the game progressed. We slowly dug out of the hole we found ourselves in and I was very proud of how hard the kids worked and fought till the end. We took a 10-7 loss but kept our heads high. Scoring for Crookston was Noah Chandler, Caden Perry, Hailey Fritz, Sydney McDonald, and Adley Vigness(3)
The Player of the week for the Mite Blue is Davin Janek. Davin played great at our Jamboree in Hallock. Davin stood out with some impressive moves on our opponents and scored some nice goals this weekend. Congratulations Davin!
8U
The 8U team traveled to Hallock this past weekend for a Mite Jamboree. Crookston had the only girls team in the Jamboree. The girls were a bit anxious going into the weekend but they played very well. The first game played was against Roseau White with a close score of 11-9, putting the Pirates on top once again. All of the girls had to step up their game and play with a little more aggression to win the game. Peyton Demarias scored her very first goal of the season. Abby Lane was in net and did a great job blocking the pucks. Scoring for the Pirates: Peyton Demarias, Kenzie Lindo, Hailey Fritz, Rilynn Aubol, Adley Vigness, Sydney McDonald.
The second game played was against the Roseau Blue team. The Pirates played hard but came up short with a score of 5-12. The girls took the loss with a grain of salt and held their heads high. They played great as a team with solid passes, better positioning and hustling after the puck. Rilynn Aubol was in net and kept a positive attitude the entire time. Scoring for the Pirates: Peyton Demarias, Kenzie Lindo, Adley Vigness, Sydney McDonald.
The 8U will host TRF 10UB on Thursday 1/31 at 6:15pm. Come out and cheer the girls on!
Player of the Week: Hailey Fritz. Hailey is a strong player on the 8U team. She has shown great improvements since the start of the season. She plays mainly defense and does a great job of getting the puck from her opponent. Hailey works hard when she gets out on the ice and has had a successful season because of it. Congratulations Hailey, you’ve earned it!

Logan Brekken was in net and had 13 saves. This next weekend, the girls are scheduled to travel to Fergus Falls for one game on Saturday.
Player of the week: Katie “KJ” Seaver.
KJ has recently transitioned from defense to forward, and has done this very well! She has a great attitude and always has a smile on her face (often with a laugh!). She is a good, supportive teammate, and is always positive. She’s a coachable player, who seeks feedback from her coaches on what she can do to improve. Keep up the good work, Katie.
PEEWEE A
This weekend the Peewee A team lost to St. James Canadians 4-1 on Friday night and 12-0 to Roseau Saturday evening.
Congratulations to Carter Trudeau on being selected as this week Peewee A player of the week. Carter is a versatile player who scored our only goal this weekend versus a couple of challenging teams. Great job Carter!
PEEWEE B
The PeeWees hosted their home hockey tournament this weekend. The kids played very hard and had one of our best games of the season on Friday afternoon against River Lakes. We didn’t come out on top but it set the stage for a good weekend of hockey, we lost 2-1. Saturday we came out sluggish and didn’t play overly well and lost 7-0 to a team from St. James. Saturday afternoon we rebounded for one of the most exciting games that I have ever got to be a part of. We were down 4-0 midway through the 3rd period and fought and clawed our way back into the game and made it 3-4. With 4 seconds left we drew a penalty shot to tie the game up and Gavin Aakhus was able to deke the goalie and send the game into a shootout. We ended up winning the game in a sudden death portion of the shootout, it was an extremely emotional game. Sunday we came back and played another solid game against a team from Fargo, we were up late but just couldn’t close out the game. We ended up losing this one in a shootout.
Players of the week are Jaden Steinbrink and Riley Helgeson. Both players were instrumental to our exciting shootout win on Saturday, Jaden even got the 3rd goal in our comeback. Both kids have progressed as the season has gone on. Both kids have great attitudes and are always looking out for there teammates.
12U
The 12U had this past weekend off. This upcoming weekend the Crookston 12U will be traveling to West Fargo and Fergus Falls on Saturday.
Players of the Week – JoJo Wallace and Hattie Weiland. JoJo and Hattie both started hockey last year and have shown so much improvement. For the past two years, they both work hard in practice day in and day out to improve their skill set and it has shown out on the ice! Their attitudes and work ethic are a coaches dream, and we couldn’t be prouder to have them as a part of our team!! Keep up the great work JoJo and Hattie!!
