#3 ADA-BORUP SCORES 56 FIRST HALF POINTS, CRUISES TO WIN OVER CROOKSTON BOYS BASKETBALL

The #3 ranked Ada-Borup Cougars Boy’s Basketball team showed the Crookston Pirates why they are one of the top teams in the state as they scored 56 first-half points and cruised to an 83-38 victory in the regular-season finale played in Crookston.

FIRST HALF – 
Ada-Borup started the game strong and took a 35-8 lead a little over halfway through the first half.  Crookston settled in for a few minutes when they went on a 5-3 “run” and trailed 38-13.  Ada-Borup put any thoughts of a Crookston come back to bed when they went on a 16-0 run and took a 54-13 lead.  Crookston’s Jack Garmen stopped the run with a three-pointer with 40 seconds left in the half, but Ada-Borup took a 56-15 lead into halftime.  “I don’t know what to say.  They are very good and make you play faster and we didn’t shoot well because of their defense,” said Pirate Coach Greg Garmen. “We had 16 turnovers in the first half, but Ada-Borup is a very good team.”

SECOND HALF –
Ada-Borup didn’t play a starter int he second half as they wanted to rest their starters and not risk injury as they will be the favorite and top seed in the Section 8A Boys Basketball tournament starting next week.  It was also a chance for the Cougars to play all 12 of their seniors in the final regular-season game of the season.  Ada-Borup still outscored the Pirates in the second half 27-23 and cruised to an 83-38 victory.  “The kids hung in there and kept playing hard,” said Coach Garmen. “I know we don’t have to play Ada at tournament time and that is good to know.  Even if Caden (Osborn) is in there for us it was going to be tough.”

Crookston ends the regular season with a 9-17 record and it looks like they will be at Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on Thursday in the first round of the Section 8AA tournament.  “I think we are going to Glyndon,” said Coach Garmen. “We need to be better defensively.” Ada-Borup improves to 24-1 on the year and will start the Section 8A tournament on Thursday.
