CROOKSTON BOY’S GOLF FINISHES FIFTH PLACE AT THE ROSEAU INVITATIONAL

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Golf team shot a 355 and finished fifth out of six teams at the Oak Creek Golf Course at the Roseau Invitational.  Roseau won the meet with a 293, 41 strokes better than runner-up Warroad.   “I told the guys that this was going to be the best day they play golf all year,” said Pirate Coach Kofoed. “There was no wind, the temperature was perfect….it was amazing.”

Crookston only brought four golfers to the meet so every score was important.  “We only had four because some had graduation receptions, or brothers had graduation receptions, and other things going on,” said Coach Kofoed. “We figured we would go with five and give it a try and the guys said they needed to stay focused today.”

Crookston was led by Kaleb Thingelstad with an 82. “He really never got himself going and it felt like he was off a little bit today,” said Coach Kofoed. “He had some good holes, but didn’t have enough of them, but found ways to fight through it on a course that he was playing for the first time.”

Blaine Andringa had a solid round and shot an 86.  “He played well on his opening nine.  He was kind of up and down and had two or three birdies.  He had a par on the first hole and on the second hole he hit a terrible shot into a house, maybe two houses.  He just missed a putt to save bogey and struggled a bit on the third hole and then finished the front nine playing really well,” said Coach Kofoed. “On the back nine he was getting a bunch of bogeys which wasn’t bad, but he was hoping to do a little better.  Overall it was a decent round.”

Garrett Fischer, a seventh-grader, had his best varsity round with a 91.  “He started out tough, about 8-over through three holes,” said Coach Kofoed. “Then on a par five he found a way to get a par and the next hole he sank a 15 footer for par.  He wasn’t hitting everything perfect, but he was finding ways to get some pars and bogeys and that was nice to see.  He had some good stretches today and keeps getting better every round.”

Ashton Shockman shot a 96. “Ashton has been consistent with scores in the mid-90’s all season.  He had a tough start with a triple bogey on his first hole and ended the front nine with a par,” said Coach Kofoed. “On the back nine he got poked in the eye with a cattail so he was struggling to see out of one eye, but he found a way to get a decent score.”
