CROOKSTON BOY’S GOLF FINISHES FIFTH PLACE AT THE TRF INVITATIONAL

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Golf team brought eight golfers and had six of them under 100 and shot 360 and finished fifth out of five teams at the Thief River Falls Invitational at the Thief River Falls Golf Club.  Roseau won the meet with a 320.  “Overall it was great to have the sun shining and half of the field wearing shorts,” said Pirate Coach Steve Kofoed. “The course was in good shape and we had some good things happen and we also had some things that weren’t as good.”

Crookston was led by Kaleb Thingelstad once again with a 79.  The score was one stroke off medalist honors.  “He hit his first tee shot into the trees and ended up salvaging a bogey,” said Coach Kofoed. “Then he got on a pretty good run and made eight straight pars to shoot a 37 thought the first nine, which was great.  In the back nine, he rattled off a bunch of pars in a row and was in the lead with four holes to go and then he admitted he started scoreboard watching on the app and was edged by a stroke.”

The rest of the guys weren’t exactly happy with their scores, but they weren’t terrible either. “The guys were a little disappointed in a few of their holes with some big holes out there,” said Coach Kofoed. “Jaxon Wang had a rough start, but played a lot better on the back nine and he was happy with how he ended.  Brannon Tangquist parred his last two holes to come in under 100 so he was happy.  Blaine Andringa was playing well and on hole 12 and the rest of the way he said he could make the ball go anywhere he wanted it. So some of the guys had a good front nine and a tough back nine, the others had a bad front nine and a good back nine so it was an interesting day.”

The Pirates will be at the Roseau Invitational tomorrow at the Oak Crest Golf Course in Roseau.
