CROOKSTON BOY’S GOLF FINISHES FOURTH AT THE GREEN WAVE INVITATIONAL

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Golf team struggled with their consistency and shot a 367 while finishing in fourth place at the East Grand Forks Green Wave Invitational at the Valley Golf Course in East Grand Forks. Roseau won the meet with a 324, which was 23 strokes better than runner-up Thief River Falls. “We have to find out how to grind out around on a windy day like today,” said Pirate Coach Steve Kofoed. “We have to find ways to get better scores on days that aren’t as ideal.”

Crookston was led by Kaleb Thingelstad with an 88.  Kaleb had four pars, 13 bogeys, and one double.  “He made the statement with a big run of bogeys,” said Coach Kofoed.  “He made the statement on the back-nine that it was the toughest nine holes he has ever played, which is a little bit of an extreme on what it actually was.  Kaleb expects to shoot much better than he did today, but it was a tough, windy day.”

Ashton Shockman had one of his best rounds of the season while shooting a 91.  He had four pars, 10 bogies, and four doubles.  “He had a good round and he started with a double bogey on the first hole,” said Coach Kofoed. “I thought his 91 was a decent score for him.  He mixed a couple pars with some bogeys but didn’t have too many big numbers in a row and I thought a 91 on a cold, windy day was good.”

Jaxon Wang and Blaine Andringa shot 94’s, Brannon Tangquist shot a 108, and Gavin Anderson shot a 120.  “Gavin Anderson had a great start to his day with a birdie and bogeyed the second hole and was even par after a couple before he misjudged the wind.  Blaine played a really good front nine and was in the top three or four spots and then he got on the back nine, which is the windy side and he came in with a 94,” said Coach Kofoed. “Jaxon had a couple of big numbers which hurt him a bit.  Brannon was playing the course for the first time and combine that with the wind it was a bit of a challenge for him.  We have some things to work on and the short game is going to be big for us the rest of the season and we need to work on mentally being stronger on days like today.”

Crookston added a meet on Friday, so they will be heading to the Park Rapids Invite at the Headwaters Course at 9:00 a.m.
