CROOKSTON BOYS HOCKEY FALLS TO HIBBING 8-1

The Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey team fell at the Crookston Sports Center to the Hibbing Bluejackets, 8-1.

FIRST PERIOD
In the first, both teams started out very physical, as a lot of hits were exchanged early. Crookston got called for a five-minute major, and Hibbing would strike first as Isaiah Hildenbrand scored the game’s first goal to put the Bluejackets up 1-0. About a minute later, it would be Tate Swanson who scored for Hibbing on the power play to give the Bluejackets a 2-0 lead. Isaiah Hildenbrand scored again on the power play, which gave Hibbing a 3-0 lead. Crookston killed off the rest of the major and would head to the power play later in the period. Hibbing would kill that off as the game would head into the second, with Hibbing leading 3-0.

SECOND PERIOD
In the second, Hibbing scored early, as Swanson picked up his second goal of the game to give the Bluejackets a 4-0 lead. Crookston would get called for another five-minute major, and this time, Benny Galli would score to put the Bluejackets up 5-0. Hibbing would add another as Jack Gabardi would fire one into the net to make it 6-0. Crookston would go on the power play, but the Bluejackets would kill it off. Later in the period, the physicality picked up once again as Hibbing would get called for a penalty. The Pirates went to the power play but were quickly called for a penalty, making it 4 on 4 action. With less than two seconds left in the period, Hildenbrand scored his third goal of the night to make it a 7-0 game heading into the third.

THIRD PERIOD
In the third, Jackson Strukel scored early for the Bluejackets to make it an 8-0 lead. Both sides would get roughing calls as the hits kept piling up for both sides. Crookston did get a five-minute power play as the Bluejackets were called for a major. Kadin Edwards scored for Crookston on a scramble out in front as he found the puck to score for the Pirates. That made it 8-1 with Hibbing in control as Edwards scored his team-high eighth goal of the season. Both teams layed up on the hits as the period came to a close. Hibbing would pick up an 8-1 victory.

Crookston drops to 9-9-0 on the season and will take on Park Rapids on Monday on the KROX YouTube Stream. Hibbing improves to 14-7-0 and will take on Thief River Falls tomorrow.
