CROOKSTON BOYS TENNIS BEATS THIEF RIVER FALLS 4-3

The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team won three singles matches and also won the second doubles match to beat the Thief River Falls Prowlers in a Section 8A dual at the Crookston High School Tennis courts.

CROOKSTON VS THIEF RIVER FALLS-
Crookston continued their solid play at singles and played four great matches. At first singles, Isaac Thomforde won the first set 6-2, but lost the second set 6-2. Since it was a dual, they played a full third set and TRF’s Jett Cornelius won the third set 6-3 to earn the win in a great match.
Reggie Winjum won a hard-fought second singles match winning the first set 6-4. In the second set, it was more of the same with a solid back-and-forth battle and Winjum won the second set 6-4 to get the win.
Gunnar Groven played third singles for the Pirates and continued his solid play as he won the first set 6-3 and played an even better second set with a 6-2 victory.
Sam Widseth played fourth singles and turned in a dominate performance with a 6-3 first set victory before shutting out his opponent in the second set for a 6-0 win to get the Pirate’s third victory at singles.
Thief River Falls won the first doubles match as Lucas Rantanen and Noah Burkel were able to get the big shots when they needed them and beat Grant Funk and Jack Everett 6-3, 6-3.
Crookston’s second doubles team of Caden Boike and Tim Brule continued their outstanding play winning the first set in a back-and-forth 7-5 victory. In the second set, they cruised to a 6-0 victory and Crookston won the match 4-3.

Crookston will take on Detroit Lakes at Choice Fitness in Grand Forks on Friday.
