CROOKSTON BOYS TENNIS CRUISES TO VICTORY OVER MOORHEAD

The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team continued its solid play as they beat the Moorhead Spuds 6-1 at the Crookston High School Tennis courts. The matches were originally scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start, but the match was moved up to a 1:30 p.m. start so they could get the match in before the rain started.

CROOKSTON VS MOORHEAD-
While the team score was 6-1, it was a much closer match than that as Crookston found ways to win big points and beat the Spuds.
Crookston swept all three doubles matches. At first doubles, Grant Funk and Jack Everett had a great start as they won the first set 6-2. In the second set, it was much closer, and Funk and Everett won a back-and-forth battle 7-6 in the tie-breaker. In the second doubles match, Crookston’s Caden Boike and Tim Brule cruised to a 6-0 first set victory before winning the second set 6-3. The third doubles match was close, but the Pirate duo of Colton Osborn and Alex Zammert came up with a bunch of big game-winners to win the first set 6-2 and won a hard-fought second set 6-4 to complete the doubles sweep.
Isaac Thomforde picked up another victory at first singles as Isaac Thomforde was in a battle in the first set but came up with an exciting 7-5 first set victory. He won another tight set with a 6-3 victory in the second to get the victory. At second singles, Reggie Winjum had a back-and-forth battle in the first set and was able to get some big game-winners to win 7-5. It was a completely different second set as Winjum cruised to a 6-0 victory to win the match. Gunnar Groven continued his winning ways at third singles as he turned in two solid sets in 6-3, 6-3 victories for the six Pirate wins.
