CROOKSTON BOY’S TENNIS FALLS TO TRF, BEATS DL

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s tennis team suffered a loss to Thief River Falls but bounced back for a nice win against Detroit Lakes at the Thief River Falls Triangular on Tuesday. Winning in both matches for Crookston was Sam Widseth, and the doubles team of Elliot Bartrum and Jack Everett.

CROOKSTON VS THIEF RIVER FALLS –
Crookston had just recently played Thief River Falls and the two teams appeared to get their players different matchups this time around.

In doubles, the #1 doubles team for the Pirates of Grant Funk and Tatum Lubinski went up against a tough team of Reece and Rhett Janisch who take care of them 6-1, 6-0. At #2 doubles, Ethan Erdman was inserted into the lineup and played with Gunnar Groven. Those two would fall in their match 6-3, 6-1. Crookston didn’t come away empty-handed in doubles however, as Elliot Bartrum and Jack Everett teamed up for a 6-3, 6-3 victory at #3 doubles giving the Prowlers a 2-1 advantage with the doubles matches.

In singles, Reggie Winjum won some games at #2 but would fall to JJ Cornelius 6-3, 6-3. Nathan Kelly was put in the #3 singles slot and battled in both of his sets before falling 6-2, 6-4. Sam Widseth had arguably the best performance for the Pirates picking up the other win in the match for Crookston at the #4 singles position 6-1, 6-2. At this point, Thief River Falls had already won the match as they were in front 4-2, but the #1 singles match had not yet finished. Isaac Thomforde was playing #1 singles for the Pirates and his match against Jett Cornelius was the only one that went to a third set. Thomforde dropped the opening set 2-6, before battling back and getting set two 6-4. In the third set tiebreaker though, Cornelius would edge Thomforde 10-8 to give himself the win, and Thief River Falls a 5-2 win in the match.

Crookston falls to 2-4 on the season with the loss.
