CROOKSTON FIGURE SKATING CLUB TO HOST ANNUAL “DREAMS ON ICE” EVENT THIS WEEKEND

The Crookston Figure Skating Club will host its annual Dreams On Ice show at the Crookston Sports Center on Saturday, March 9, beginning at 6:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 10, beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Skaters ages 2-18 will be able to skate during the event. There will also be a Mom’s Pops and Tots class where two and three-year-olds will be able to skate with their mom, dad, and grandpa. Dreams On Ice will also feature a senior spotlight slot where they will honor the lone senior on the figure skating squad, Emily Boucher. “Emily has passed the top level with the United States Figure Skating Association,” said Director of the Crookston Figure Skating Club Katie Engelstad, “So she’s a gold medalist with United States Figure Skating, so that she will be skating a few times in the show and it will be fun to see her.”

Other classes that will be offered during the event include introductory skating courses for ages five to ten, freestyle skating, ice dancing, and two synchronized teams performing. The doors will open to the rink one hour before each show. Each show will start with the senior recognition featuring Emily Boucher before Engelstad coordinates the show. Each show is estimated to be approximately 90 minutes to two hours with a 15-minute intermission.

The club has various volunteers helping with the event, and Engelstad wanted to express her appreciation. “We have a couple of volunteers this year, including some high school volunteers,” said Engelstad, “We have Emma LaPlante helping out, and we have Ashlyn Bailey, Morgan Larson, and Allison Wagner volunteering for us. We also have our Crookston Figure Skating board members show committee; we’ll have a lot of volunteers. So big shout out to our volunteers because we wouldn’t be able to do this without them.”

The cost to attend the show will be $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, and kids in preschool or younger are free. Families can also purchase a $25 family weekend wristband suitable for both shows. Engelstad is encouraging all of Crookston to show their support and see the skaters’ progress over the year. “We really would appreciate it if all of the community would come out and show their support for our skaters,” said Engelstad, “Most of these skaters have skated their whole life, and maybe it’s their first year. They start in November and work on their skills, but they’re excited to show all of their progress throughout the year to their family, friends, and community.”
