CROOKSTON GIRL’S BASKETBALL CRUISES TO WIN AT WARROAD

The Crookston Pirate Girls basketball team started the game on a 10-0 run and never looked back as they cruised to a 64-33 victory over the Warroad Warriors in a Section 8AA matchup in Warroad.

FIRST HALF –
Crookston couldn’t have asked for a better start to the game as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead.  The run started with an Abby Borowicz three-pointer and a Halle Winjum three-pointer.  The run ended with a back-to-back basket from Borowicz.  The lead would stay around 10 points, and halfway through the half, Crookston led 20-10.  Warroad scored a basket before Winjum made a three-pointer, and on the next trip down the floor, she converted a three-point play for a 26-12 lead.  The Pirates led 37-20 when Isabelle Smith made a jump shot, and Naomi Johnson finished the half with a basket for a 41-20 lead. 

SECOND HALF –
Crookston focused on better defense in the second half, which worked.  Warroad scored only five points in the first 13 minutes of the half, Faith Lilly scored all five, and the Pirates led 57-25 after an Emma Gunderson three-pointer and baskets from Libby Salentine and Johnson for a 59-25 lead.  Crookston went deeper into the bench, and Warroad went on an 8-0 run with six points scored by Lilly to get within a 59-33 deficit.  Crookston stopped the run when Grace Boll made a three-pointer for her first varsity points, and the Pirates added one more basket for a 64-33 victory. 

Crookston improves to 1-2 on the year and will travel to East Grand Forks on Tuesday.  Warroad drops to 1-4 on the year.
