CROOKSTON GIRLS BASKETBALL FALLS TO BARNESVILLE 71-45

The Crookston Pirates Girls Basketball team fell on the road to the Barnesville Trojans 71-45 in a Section 8AA First Round Playoff game in Barnesville.

FIRST HALF-
Starting off the game, Crookston’s Chloe Boll knocked down a three-ball as the shot clock expired for the first basket. Isabelle Smith for Crookston hit a short shot for the Pirates to give Crookston an early 5-2 lead. Smith had a layup in transition for the Pirates to cut into Barnesville’s lead at 11-8. Naomi Johnson got an offensive rebound for the Pirates and got a putback layup to make it 16-10, but Barnesville was still in the lead. Chloe Boll had a pair of drives to the basket, where she used the glass to bank in her shots as Barnesville held their lead at 22-14. Johnson banked in a three later in the half to make it 24-18 with Barnesville on top. Isabelle Smith hit a late three for Crookston as Barnesville commanded a 36-23 lead at halftime. Abigail John had 26 first-half points for Barnesville. 

SECOND HALF –
In the second half, Barnesville’s offense was on a roll, and their defense forced multiple Pirate turnovers. Katelyn Christensen hit her first basket of the game, which was a three, as Barnesville’s lead was up to 47-26. Christensen knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 60-28 with Barnesville up. Chloe Boll slashed to the basket to get her layup to fall as the Trojans’ lead was 61-30. Christensen hit another three for Crookston to make it 64-35. Smith hit a three later in the half for the Pirates, but they still trailed 66-40. Christensen hit another second-half three for the Pirates with just a few minutes left. Barnesville kept their lead as they would get a 71-45 win. 

Crookston’s season comes to an end with a 3-24 record. Crookston’s seniors are Emma Gunderson, Isabelle Smith, Katelyn Christensen, and Halle Winjum. 

Barnesville improves to 17-10 on the year and will take on the 5-seed East Grand Forks on Saturday.
