Climax-Fisher’s Peyton Hoffman grabs 1,000th career rebound in win over Crookston

Climax-Fisher’s Peyton Hoffman grabbed the 1,000th career rebound and added 33 points to lead her team past the Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team at the Climax-Shelly School Gymnasium.

FIRST HALF
Climax-Fisher started the game on an 11-2 run that started with a Peyton Hoffman basket and a Brooklyn Hoffman banked three-pointer. After a Crookston basket by Chloe Boll, Peyton and Brooklyn Hoffman made three-pointers for an 11-2 lead. The Knights had a 15-4 lead when Grace Boll made a three-pointer, and Madi Bruggeman had a basket in the paint to get the Pirate deficit to 15-9 with 10:12 left in the half. Climax-Fisher’s Peyton Hoffman made two free throws, and Lucy Paulsrud made a three-pointer for a 20-9 lead. Crookston’s Chloe Boll made a basket, and Grace Boll hit another three-pointer to get within a 20-14 deficit with seven minutes remaining. A minute later, Climax-Fisher led 23-14 with 4:35 left in the half when Grace Boll made two free throws to get within a 23-16 deficit. This is when the outstanding 6’1 sophomore Peyton Hoffman took over for the Knights. Peyton made a basket, and on the ensuing defensive possession, she grabbed her 11th rebound of the game to record the 1,000th career rebound. After a timeout and short celebration, Peyton scored five more points, and Kadence Korynta drained a three-pointer for a 33-16 lead. Crookston scored the last four points of the half as Morgan and Chloe Boll had baskets as Climax-Fisher took a 33-20 lead into the half.

SECOND HALF
Climax-Fisher started the second half with a free throw before Crookston’s Brooklyn Waldal went on a 6-2 run, and Madi Bruggeman added two free throws to bring the Pirates within a 36-28 deficit five minutes into the half. Climax-Fisher’s Lucy Paulsrud gave her team a big spark and momentum boost as she jumped into the passing lane, stole the ball, and went in for a layup. Paulsrud got another steal, which led to a Kinle Korynta three-pointer for a 41-28 lead. Grace Boll made a three-pointer before the Knights countered with a Paulsrud three-pointer, a basket by Brooklyn Hoffman, and a Kinley Korynta three-pointer for a 49-31 lead halfway through the half. Climax-Fisher led 51-36 when Peyton and Brooklyn Hoffman made a basket each for a 55-36 lead. Crookston tried to make another run with a Chloe Boll three-pointer and a Madi Bruggeman basket to get within a 55-41 deficit, but the Knights’ Peyton Hoffman scored the next three points and Climax-Fisher held on in the final minutes to win 60-46.

Crookston drops to 4-12 on the year and will host Wadena-Deer Creek on Saturday. Climax-Fisher improves to 12-8 on the year and will take on NCE/UH on Monday.
