The Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team started the game on a 22-6 run and never looked back as they cruised to a 66-31 victory in a Section 8AA and Northwest Conference game in Roseau.
FIRST HALF –
Crookston started the game on a 9-2 run with four different players scoring in the run. Madi Bruggeman led the game off with a basket, Grace Boll followed with a basket, Chloe Boll made a three-pointer and Brooklyn Waldal added a basket for the 9-2 lead five minutes into the game. A few minutes later, Crookston led 11-6 when they scored 11 straight points with a Nesseth basket, a Bruggeman three-pointer, a free throw from Halle Nicholas, a Chloe Boll basket and a Grace Boll three-point play for a 22-6 lead with six minutes left in the half. The teams would play even the rest of the half and Crookston took a 32-17 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF –
Roseau started the second half with a basket before Crookston’s Naomi Johnson had a nice basket under the hoop. Bruggeman added a basket before Johnson scored again on an offense rebound and putback. Chloe Boll kept the run going with a basket as she was knocked to the ground and made the free throw for a three-point play and a 41-19 lead three minutes into the half, forcing a Roseau timeout. Roseau scored four straight points before Crookston’s Crookston made two free throws, and Grace Boll added a basket before Waldal grabbed an offensive rebound and scored for a 49-23 lead with 11 minutes left in the game. Crookston’s run continued with a Nesseth basket. The Pirates continued to run and gun as Chloe Boll added a basket, Nicholas got a nice pass for a layup and a 55-25 lead. The teams played even the rest of the way and Crookston won the game 66-31.
Crookston improves to 4-4 on the year and is only one win away from tying their win total for all of last season. Crookston will host Ada-Borup-West on Friday around 7:00 p.m. KROX will have the game on the radio and video stream.
Roseau drops to 2-5 on the year.
