CROOKSTON GIRLS FINISH 1ST AND BOYS FINISH 5TH AT KROX INVITATIONAL AT EGF

The Crookston Pirate Girls finished first, and the Pirate Boys finished fifth out of seven teams at the KROX Invitational track meet held in East Grand Forks.  West Marshall won the boys division, three points better than East Grand Forks.

GIRLS
The Crookston Girls won their second straight track meet to start the season as they beat Thief River Falls by 39 points.  “The girls competed today and had some great performances across the board,” said Pirate Coach Amy Boll. “It was a beautiful day and we are very proud of how the girls competed today.”

Emma Borowicz won three events for the second straight meet with victories in the 200 meters, 300 hurdles, and the Pole Vault.  “Emma had a great meet today,” said Coach Boll. “It was fun to watch her run with so much confidence.  She keeps getting strong in each meet.”

Breanna Kressin won the 100 hurdles and finished second place in the 300 hurdles.  “Breanna had another great meet and turned in some great times for the second meet of the season,” said Coach Boll. “She ran both races very well.”

Hayden Winjum won the triple jump for the second meet in a row, and she also finished second place in the 400 meters. “Hayden did a really good job in both the long jump and triple jump and then she ran so well in the 400.  She had a great meet today.”

Coach Boll said she was happy with all the girls, but some of the performances stuck out.  “Amanda Schultz ran in a few events and had a strong performance in both of her events.  Ava Lopez had her first meet today and did a great job,” said Coach Boll. “Cassie Solheim did a nice job and Halle Winjum had a good first meet of the year too.”

BOYS –
The Crookston Boys had some solid performances and finished fifth place, but they were only 20.5 points out of first place in a very competitive track meet.

Noah Kiel won the 100 and 200 races again.  “He was good out of the blocks and ran two very good races. His times were very good,” said Pirate Coach Wayne Folkers. “I thought he ran very well today and I think his times are very good for this time of year.  I think we are in the ballpark of where we want to be.  He had some kids that pushed him a little more today and he likes that competition.”

Karsten Isaacson won the high jump with a jump of 5-10, a personal best. “Karsten was a horse today,” said Coach Folkers. “He is really coming into his own and is going to make some noise.  His jump of 5-10 is a personal best and now we will be shooting for six feet.”

The 4×100 relay of Andrew MacGregor, Caden Boike, Gabe Montieth, and Easton Tangquist finished first. “I thought the handoffs were good and we ran a pretty clean race,” said Coach Folkers. “We put Andrew in the race after Brady Wisk pulled a quad in the 100 and I thought Andrew did a good job.”

The 4×200 relay of Andrew MacGregor, Easton Tangquist, Caden Boike, and Noah Kiel also finished first.  “We are still working on handoffs and that showed today because they weren’t great today,” said Coach Folkers. “Everything else in the race was great and we still had a very good time.”

The Pirates were happy with their performance on a beautiful day for a track meet. “Our seniors are starting to step up and they are enjoying the competition,” said Coach Folkers. “I thought all the guys competed hard and we are going to have a lot of personal records when I go through the numbers later.”

Crookston will travel to Warren for the West Marshall Invitational on Friday, May 7.
