CROOKSTON GIRL’S GOLF FINISH TIED FOR SECOND AT CROOKSTON INVITE

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Golf team had two teams compete in the Crookston Invitational at Minakwa Golf Club in Crookston.  Crookston Blue finished tied for second and Crookston Gold did not have a score and finished fifth.  Roseau won the meet while shooting a 413.

The coaches decided to play a circle eight rule, where any player that shot over an eight on a hole could stop there and move on to the next hole.  The Crookston Gold team had five of the six players choose for a circle eight on at least one hole and that is why they don’t officially have a team score.  “It seems like almost every one of our girls had at least one bad hole today so there were a lot of circle eight’s out there,” said Crookston Coach Jeff Perreault. “We had to take the circle eight holes out of the equation and we couldn’t use those player’s scores.  Roseau was the only team that didn’t have any circle eights.”

Crookston’s Josslyn Leach had the best Pirate score with a 92 and that was also good for medalist honors.  “The thing I like about Josslyn is that she wasn’t happy and was thinking about the things she could have done better,” said Coach Perreault.  “We were very happy with her posting a 92 on her first round of the year, but she isn’t happy with it.  She expected more and wants to be better and expects herself to be in the 80’s and she certainly has that in her game.  She will get there with some more reps.”

The rest of the Pirates all shot 110 or higher and it was a good starting point for the team that has several new players. “There were a couple of people that were disappointed with their rounds and I told them they shouldn’t be disappointed because it is our first round of the season with a complete round of 18 holes and now they know what they need to work on,” said Coach Perreault. “We will address it in practice and start bringing the scores down and we will be better than our scores showed today, but we will have to get to work.”

Crookston will travel to Roseau on Tuesday.
