CROOKSTON GIRL’S GOLF FINISHES FOURTH PLACE AT FOSSTON MEET

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Golf team finished in fourth place with a team score of 388 in the Girl’s Golf Section 8A Preview at Bemidji Town & Country Club. Park Christian won the tournament with a 354, thirteen strokes ahead of Fergus Falls. Sydney Hufnagle from Lake of the Woods and Amy Jacobson of Park Christian shared co-medalist honors after each carding an 84.

Joslynn Leach led the way for the Pirates as the sophomore turned in a 90. “It was a good round for (Joslynn),” said Crookston head coach Jeff Perreault. “She is itching to get into the 80s though, and I really thought today was the day. She finished bogey-bogey to get into that 90 range. She was a little disappointed, but she also knows she’s going to have to improve on that golf course in order to get herself where she wants to go at the end of the year.” Senior Dani Boyle shot the second-best round for Crookston with a 93. “(Dani) had a couple of blow-up holes,” explained Perreault. “One at hole eight and another at hole seven. Those are the ones that we have to get off the scorecard and she’ll be right there.” Bailey Cameron, a freshman, broke 100 with her 99 the third best score for the Pirates. “That was a nice round for (Bailey),” said Perreault. “Watching her play today, she just looked more comfortable as she’s getting more repetition. To break 100, she was feeling good about that, and I think she should.” Sophomore Sophia Rezac turned in Crookston’s fourth and final team score with a 106 and senior Hannah Street rounded out the Pirates’ entrants with a 108. “It was a valuable experience to get out there,” summarized Perreault. “I think what today did was spark something in the Pirate girls. Many of them were coming off the course saying that they want to play this course a few more times before we get to that Section Tournament so I have a feeling there might be some weekend trips over to Bemidji just to get a little bit more familiar, a little bit more comfortable playing that course because it is awfully important for us at the end of the year.”

Crookston returns to the links on Friday when the Pirates travel to Wadena to compete in the Wadena-Deer Creek Invitational beginning at 9:00 a.m.
