The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team was shutout by #9 East Grand Forks for the second time in a week, this time by a 5-0 score in EGF on Monday night.
FIRST HALF –
The first half started just as the first half did in the previous matchup, as the Pirate defense was stout and Kambree Wangen was sharp in net. Unlike the last matchup, though, the Green Wave were getting more shots on goal, and though the Pirate defense played great defense for the first 25 minutes, EGF finally broke through the wall, as Jorja Perkerewicz beat Wangen to give the Green Wave a 1-0 lead. Crookston was looking to get into the half with that score, but Geena Jordheim had other plans, as she scored twice in two minutes to give the Green Wave a 3-0 lead headed into the half.
SECOND HALF –
East Grand Forks carried the momentum that they gathered from the first half into the second half, as Jersey Perkerewicz joined the scoring party four minutes into the second half to put EGF up 4-0. That score stuck for a while as the Pirate defense continued to fight for every ball, but in the 62nd minute, Jersey Perkerewicz would add another one, putting the Green Wave up 5-0. For the second time this season against the Green Wave, the Pirates were unable to muster a shot on goal, and this allowed EGF to cruise to a 5-0 win.
Despite the loss, head coach Sarah Reese was proud of the effort from the girls. “This was a good game, and we worked hard all game” said Reese, “We compacted space, disrupted passes, and played good team defense.”
Crookston falls to 0-8 on the season, while EGF improves to 7-1.
