The Crookston Pirate Girls Tennis team played the East Grand Forks Green Wave a lot closer than the first time around, but just fell one win short and lost by a score of 4-3 at the CHS tennis courts on Monday afternoon.
CROOKSTON vs EAST GRAND FORKS
The Pirates overall played much better than the first time they played the Green Wave, with most matches being competitive for at least a set. In singles, Lauren Tull continued her winning ways, although she had to work a bit harder than in previous matches, as she won in first singles 6-2, 6-4. Ella Capistran had a very competitive first set but ended up falling 6-3, 6-1 in second singles. The third and fourth singles matches were not as competitive, as the Green Wave were able to win both matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
In doubles, the Pirates had a bit more success. In second doubles, Avery Mathews and Brigit Groven dropped the first set, but came back to win the second set and super tiebreak in convincing fashion. The other Pirate victory came in third doubles, where Katie Seaver and Catelyn Maruska dominated the first set, then came back down 5-3 in the second set to win the match in straight sets. Kaylen Bedard and Nora Groven played a close match themselves in first doubles, but fell in straight sets.
Crookston now falls to 5-10 on the season..
