CROOKSTON GIRLS SOCCER SHUT OUT BY DETROIT LAKES

The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team had plenty of shots on goal but could not capitalize as they fell to Detroit Lakes by a score of 3-0 in a match played in Detroit Lakes.

FIRST HALF
Detroit Lakes couldn’t have asked for a much better start, as Hayden King would find herself on a breakaway just two minutes into the game. She would bury her shot for the score and give the Lakers a 1-0 lead. Crookston would respond by putting pressure on the Detroit Lakes goalie, but Ella Seaberg was up to the task as she had two saves on two Pirate shots in the first 10 minutes. The rest of the half saw even possession between the teams as Crookston entered halftime down by a goal.

SECOND HALF –
The second half started with even possession for both teams until King gave a nice pass to Hadley Songstad, who would break away from the Pirate defense and bury a shot for the score, giving the Lakers a 2-0 lead. About seven minutes later, Detroit Lakes would find the back of the net again off of a Sedrah Krogssard breakaway, furthering the Laker’s lead to 3-0.
Crookston was dealing with a low amount of subs, which caused fatigue to set in during the second half. The Pirates could only get two shots off in the second half as Detroit Lakes held most of the possession. The Lakers continued to play tough defense and limit the sparse opportunities the Pirates did have to no goals. Detroit Lakes cruised the rest of the way to a 3-0 victory.

Crookston falls to 1-2-1 on the season and takes on East Grand Forks on Tuesday. Detroit Lakes improves to 1-5 on the season.
