The Crookston Pirates Girl’s soccer team lost to Fergus Falls 8-0 in a Section 8A game played in Fergus Falls.
Fergus Falls struck early and never looked back. The Otters scored in the opening minute when Piper Andrews gave the hosts a 1-0 lead. In the fifth minute, Fergus Falls scored its second goal when Maddie Hulter fired a shot into the net boosting the home side’s advantage to 2-0. Maddie Boyd scored off a corner kick by Kenzy Braeger in the 18th minute allowing Fergus Falls’ lead to grow to 3-0. In the 27th minute Fergus Falls’ Anna Anderson scored her first goal of the day as the Otters continued to surge offensively. Anderson notched her second goal just before halftime in the 35th minute allowing Fergus Falls to take a 5-0 lead into halftime.
Crookston goalkeeper Reese Swanson provided an inspired effort for the Pirates in the second half making eight saves. Despite Swanson’s strong play, Fergus Falls added three more goals to its lead in the second half. Four-minutes into the second half Haley Kugler scored from a pass by Talia Nelson boosting the Otters’ edge to 6-0. The lead grew to 7-0 in 64th minute when Fergus Falls Piper Andrews scored again. The Otters added one final goal as Ellie Andersen finished off a pass from Kenzy Braeger to close out the 8-0 victory. “We competed all 80 minutes,” noted Crookston head coach Sarah Reese. “We played solid, aggresive defense and had some smartly played balls. We also moved well off the ball. Dillynn Wallace was a brick house today for us.”
Crookston falls to 0-2 on the year and will play their home opener on Tuesday, August 27 at 4:00 P.M when the Pirates host Fergus Falls Hillcrest. Fergus Falls improves to 2-0.
