The Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team couldn’t find the answers against the Moorhead Spuds, dropping the road contest 12-0 in Moorhead on Tuesday night.
FIRST HALF –
The Moorhead offense got started instantly in this contest and didn’t let off the gas pedal for the rest of the game. The Spuds put 33 shots on goal in the game, and 17 of them came in the first half. Quinn Erickson was the star of the first half, scoring four of her five goals in the half. Kambree Wangen was able to make nine saves, but eight still found the net, allowing the Spuds to take an 8-0 lead into the break.
SECOND HALF –
In the second half, though the Spuds had 16 more shots on goal, the Pirate defense improved considerably. Wangen made 12 saves on those 16 shots, and though the Spuds had 15 corner kicks throughout the game, they scored on none of them. Unfortunately, the Pirate offense wasn’t able to get anything going, and Moorhead was able to cruise to a 12-0 victory.
Though the score wasn’t pretty, Pirate head coach Sarah Reese commended the girls for their effort. “Tough day, but we never gave up” Said Reese, “several nagging injuries are proving to be difficult, but no one gave up and gave their best effort.”
Crookston drops to 0-3 on the year, while Moorhead improves to 2-1 on the season.
