CROOKSTON GIRL’S SOFTBALL FALLS TO NCE/UH IN EXTRA INNINGS

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball team trailed 10-5 and scored six runs in the final two innings to tie the game at 11-11 to force extra innings, but Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal scored four runs in the ninth inning to win 15-12 in nine innings in a game played at the Donnie Lauf/American Legion Softball Field in Crookston.

Neither team scored in the first two innings, but that changed in the third inning.  NCE/UH scored three runs on a couple of hits and some aggressive baserunning while taking advantage of a Crookston error to take a 3-0 lead.
Crookston responded in the bottom of the inning as Kenze Epema reached on an error, stole second base, and advanced to third on a throwing error.  Amber Cymbaluk walked and Epema scored on a wild pitch to get within a 3-1 deficit.  Jenna Coauette walked and the runners advanced to second and third on a wild pitch.  Emily Bowman walked to load the bases and after a Pirate strikeout, Julia Lallier walked to score a run.  The next batter grounded out, but another run scored on the play.  With runners at first and third, Brianna Kelly walked to load the bases and Bowman scored on a wild pitch to give the Pirates a 4-3 lead.

NCE/UH responded in the top of the fourth inning with two runs for a 5-4 lead.
Crookston responded with one run in the bottom of the inning when Emma Boll led off with a single and Cymbaluk reached on a fielder’s choice while Boll was out at second.  Coauette crushed the ball to left field and the ball rolled all the way to the fence for a run-scoring triple to tie the game at 5-5.

NCE/UH added three more runs in the fifth inning and then two more in the sixth inning to take a 10-5 lead.
Crookston answered in the bottom of the sixth inning when Cymbaluk singled, Coauette walked, and after the second out of the inning, Lallier singled to load the bases.  Cymbaluk scored on a passed ball and Carly Knutson walked to reload the bases.  Brianna Kelly doubled to score two runs and Knutson scored on an error to get within a 10-9 deficit.

NCE/UH scored a run in the top of the seventh inning for an 11-9 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Crookston’s Emma Boll started with a single and Epema had a sacrifice bunt to advance Boll to second.  Cymbaluk tripled to left field to score Boll and Crookston trailed 11-10 with one out.  The next batter popped out for the second out of the inning, but Bowman singled to score a run and the Pirates tied the game at 11-11. The next batter grounded out to force extra innings.

Nobody scored in the eighth inning, but NCE/UH and Crookston’s defense struggled in the ninth inning as they allowed the first two batters to reach on errors.  The next batter doubled to score a run.  Two more singles scored a run each and another run scored on an error for a 15-11 lead.
Emma Boll reached on an error, but the next batter popped out to the shortstop and they turned a double play.  The next two batters, Cymbaluk and Coauette, walked and Bowman singled to score a run and Crookston trailed 15-12.  The rally ended with a ground out and NCE/UH held on to win 15-12.
