Pirate Swimming Drops Dual with Thief River Falls

The Crookston Pirates Girl’s swimming team fell 96-68 in a Section 8A dual against the Thief River Falls Prowlers in Thief River Falls.
Crookston started the dual well winning the 200-yard medley relay with a finish of 2:10.08 with a strong performance from Claire Oman. “Claire Oman had a really great meet today, she cut two-seconds in her 100-freestyle and swam her fastest split in her 200-medley relay, so she was having a really great meet today,” said head coach Marley Melbye. Elizabeth Erdman won the 200-freestyle to continue the Pirates dominance atop the podium to open the dual. “Elizabeth Erdman also did really well, she swam the 200-freestyle which she hasn’t swum much, but really was able to hold a solid pace throughout that whole race in that as well,” said Melbye. Thea Oman continued her strong swimming this season with a pair of first places finished in both freestyle races. “Thea (Oman) is always swimming really well, she swam the 50 and 100-freestyle and took those both home and had really good finesse in the water,” said Melbye. Elizabeth Erdman added another first-place race in the 100-butterfly before a pair of younger Pirate swimmers found the podium in the meets longest race. “In our 500-freestyle we had two very young gals, Claire Oman and Fallon Johnson swam that and to bring second and third home for the Crookston Pirates was very exciting for two young athletes, so they were looking very well,” added Melbye. Crookston’s relay teams continued to shine winning the 200-freestyle relay with Fallon Johnson, Madison Hoiland, Elizabeth Erdman, and Thea Oman combining for a 1:53.77 finish. The Pirates final win of the meet came in the 100-breaststroke when Madison Hoiland topped the rest of the field by over five-seconds with her 1:19.32 finish.  “Today was a great meet,” summarized Melbye. “We had the majority of the first-place swims. I think there were two events that we didn’t take first-place in, so the girls were swimming really well today. I think they were really hungry to perform their best against Thief River because they’re one of our rivals, but they swam really well today.”
The Pirates return to the pool on Saturday when they travel to Fosston for the Fosston-Bagley Invitational beginning at 12 p.m.
