CROOKSTON GIRL’S TENNIS BEATS DETROIT LAKES AND WADENA-DC

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Tennis team did bounce back after a tough 4-3 loss to East Grand Forks on Thursday defeating Detroit Lakes and Wadena-Deer Creek in the Detroit Lakes triangular. Crookston didn’t have any trouble in a 6-1 win against the host Lakers and finished it off with a 4-3 squeaker over Wadena-Deer Creek.

Crookston won the first triangular match as they coasted to a 6-1 win over the Detroit Lakes Lakers.
Crookston swept the singles matches with four straight-set victories. At first singles, Brekken Tull dominated in a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Kaylie Clauson cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 victory in second singles. Addie Fee shut out her opponent, winning the third singles match 6-0, 6-0. At fourth singles, Paige Abrahamson easily won her match by a 6-1, 6-2 score.
The first doubles team of Emma Gunderson and Isabelle Smith rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory, and the second doubles team of Morgan Nelson and Georgia Sanders won the first set 6-1 and won a battle in the second set by a 6-4 score.
Detroit Lakes picked up its lone victory at third doubles and a three-set battle. The Lakers duo won the first set 6-0, but Crookston’s Calleigh Fanfulik and Coral Brekken bounced back to win the second set 6-4 to force a third set. Detroit Lakes outlasted the Pirates with a 12-10 victory, but Crookston won the match 6-1.

Crookston improves to 7-2 on the season.

CROOKSTON VS WADENA-DEER CREEK
Crookston couldn’t have asked for a better start, as they quickly won the first four matches to secure their 8th dual victory of the season and make it a sweep today in Detroit Lakes.  Isabelle Smith easily won her second singles match with a 6-1, 6-2. Addie Fee won her third singles match by the same 6-1, 6-2 score. Paige Abrahamson shut out her opponent at fourth singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.
The second doubles team of Georgia Sanders and Morgan Nelson had a hard-fought win with a 6-3, 7-5 victory to give Crookston the official team victory with the fourth win of the match and three matches remaining.
It was a good thing Crookston secured the first four victories because Wadena-Deer Creek won the final three matches. They won a tight first singles match 7-5, 7-6 and 7-3 over a hard working Brekken Tull.  In the tiebreaker at three doubles in a tough loss for Coral Brekken and Calleigh Fanfulik. Wadena-Deer Creek also won the first doubles match with sisters Katie and Anna Fiemeyer winning a tight battle over Emma Gunderson and Kaylee Clauson with a 6-4, 7-6 with a 9-7 tiebreaker for the win.
Crookston is now 8-2 in duals and will have three more matches tomorrow at the Alexandria Invitational. The Pirates will face Osakis at 10:00 AM, followed by Alexandria at NOON and finishing it off with another match against Detroit Lakes for six matches in three days for Crookston. The win over Wadena-Deer Creek was a big Section 8A win for Crookston and all three matches in Alexandria will not be Section opponents.
