The #9 ranked and #3 seed Crookston Pirate Girl’s Tennis beat the #7 ranked and #2 seed Thief River Falls Prowlers 5-2 in the semi-finals of the Section 8A tournament at Courts Plus in Fargo. It was the Pirates’ second win of the day after they defeated Wadena-Deer Creek in the quarterfinals 5-2.
CROOKSTON VS TRF-
Paige Abrahamson continued her winnings ways as she cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at fourth singles to get Crookston a 1-0 lead.
The third doubles team of Ashlyn Bailey and Coral Brekken were dominant in a 6-1, 6-1 victory, giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead.
The second doubles team of Morgan Nelson and Georgia Sanders won their first set 6-1 and had a back-and-forth battle in the second set before winning 6-4 for a 3-0 Crookston lead.
Addie Fee was the one to clinch it for Crookston, as she won her third singles match 6-1, 6-2 to give Crookston a 4-0 lead to solidify the Pirates advancing to the Section Championship.
The fifth match complete was a victory for Thief River Falls at 2nd singles 6-0, 6-2.
The first doubles match was a hard-fought match, but Crookston’s Emma Gunderson and Kaylie Clauson were able to come up with some big shots to beat a solid Prowler duo of Piper Greene and Brianne Ellison 6-3, 6-3.
Finally, Brekken Tull ran into top 10-ranked Avery Skaar and lost her first singles match by a score of 6-0, 6-3. Crookston won the match 5-2.
Crookston improves to 15-5 on the season and takes on Staples-Motley in the Section 8A championship game tomorrow at 9:00 AM.
