CROOKSTON GIRLS TENNIS FALLS IN DUAL AGAINST THIEF RIVER FALLS

The Crookston Pirates Girls’ tennis team dropped a hard-fought dual 6-1 against Thief River Falls in a non-Section match-up played in Thief River Falls.
Hayden Winjum faced a very difficult opponent in first singles with the Prowlers proving a formidable foe from top to bottom Crookston head coach Mike Geffre explained, “Hayden lost in one singles which is not typical for her. She did not have her best day playing and the girl she played is very good and has only lost once or twice all year.” Emma Osborn dropped a hard-fought match despite what the final score might indicate according to her head coach, “she had a really good match and really battled well.” Hannah Lindemoen dropped the third singles match, but also played well. “She played a lot of tough games,” said Geffre. Crookston’s most competitive singles match featured seventh grader Halle Winjum, who took the opening set 7-5 before falling 6-3 in the second set and 10-6 in the tiebreaker. “That was a really good match, it was a seventh-grader against an eighth grader,” noted Geffre. “It was a really fun match to watch.” The Pirates lone win of the dual came from the first doubles pairing of Emma Borowicz and Catherine Tiedemann who topped Brea Prickett and Khloe Lund of Thief River Falls 6-4, 6-3. “It was a nice doubles match with a lot of nice hitting going on in that one.” Crookston dropped the remaining doubles matches as Thief River Falls claimed the dual over Crookston 6-1. Despite the loss head coach Mike Geffre was pleased with how his team fared on the road with a young squad that was tested by a very talented opponent, “we had a pretty young singles line up and they’re going to get better. We’re just learning one or two different parts of the game from turning those matches around.”
The Pirates fall to 3-7 this season and return to the courts on Thursday in East Grand Forks at 4:00 p.m.
