CROOKSTON GIRLS TRACK FINISHES 5TH, BOYS FINISH 7TH AT PINE TO PRAIRIE MEET

The Crookston Pirate Boys’ and Girls’ Track Teams both competed without their junior class athletes, due to the ACT testing at Crookston High School tomorrow, at Concordia College in Moorhead in the Pine to Prairie Conference meet. The Crookston Girls’ finished in fifth place with 64 points while Minnewaska Area took first place with 144 points, 32 points ahead of Barnesville. The Crookston Boys’ finished in seventh place with 27 points as Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton won the meet with 198.5 points 99.5 points ahead of every other team.

GIRLS –
The Pirates were led by a first-place performance from their 4×200 relay team as Hayden Winjum, Breanna Kressin, Rachel Hefta, and Emma Borowicz combined for a time of 1:55.10. “Our 4×200 team did a very good job running in the relay,” said Crookston Girls’ track and field coach Amy Boll. “They took first place, and they came out really, really strong. They had a very good time, so I was very proud of how that turned out.”

Breanna Kressin continued her strong meet with the top time in the 55-meter hurdles finishing in 9.53 seconds while shaving 0.24 seconds off her 200-meter time from one week ago for a fourth-place finish in the meet. “Breanna Kressin did a very good job in the hurdles,” summarized Boll. “She had a nice time (in the hurdles) and shaved off some time and had a personal best in the 200 for the year as well.”
Jada Dillabough took first place in the shot put improving by one foot from her toss in last week’s meet for the Pirates. “Jada Dillabough had a personal best this year in the shot put,” noted Boll.
In the 4×800 relay, Kailee Magsam, Thea Oman, Hailey Spivey, and Emma Borowicz combined for a third-place finish with a time of 10:58.97.
Emma Borowicz was impressive both running and pole vaulting picking up a pair of third-place finishes. In the 400 meters, Borowicz finished in 1:03.25, which was a new school record.  Borowicz broke Katrina Wahlin (2004) and Jennifer Taus’ (1985) record of 1:03.92.  Borowicz also finished third while clearing 7’6” in the pole vault. “Emma Borowicz ran a very good 400-meter dash,” said Boll. “That was her personal best this year. She ran a very strong, open 400.”
Abby Borowicz rounded out Crookston’s top finishes taking third in the 3200 meters with a time of 14:03.64.
“I’m very happy with how all the girls competed today,” summarized Boll. “We ran the girls in different events. We were trying to get different times for the events they were doing so I was overall very happy with how the meet went.”

BOYS –
Senior Jaden Lubarski led the Pirate Boys’ track team. Lubarski shaved over 10-seconds off of his 800-meter time from one week ago finishing in first place in a time of 2:10.51. “Jaden Lubarski really broke out a little bit,” said Crookston Boys’ track and field coach Wayne Folkers. “He took first place in that in the meet. He did a nice job. He had a good meet.”

Lubarski also led off the 4×800 relay team that finished in fourth place with Cameron Weiland, Andrew MacGregor, and Michael Ramirez combining for a time of 10:16.11 to claim fourth place in the event.
Although the Pirates didn’t have many top finishes, due to the absence of their junior athletes, the seventh-grade track team members were able to compete at the varsity level which was a valuable experience for the future of Crookston boys’ track and field.
“Number one, we had several of our kids not compete today mainly because of the ACT tomorrow,” summarized Folkers, “but the kids we had competed very well and we had a lot of personal records from last week. We took the seventh graders today they acclimated to the varsity meet and had a good time. That’s always a plus to get them in. If you look at all of our throwers, all of them improved from last week.”
Folkers was particularly impressed with the improvement he saw in just one week since the first meet of the season, “truthfully, they surpassed (his expectations), they all competed very well and produced with better marks and better times. There comes a point when it kind of levels off and hopefully we don’t level off for a while. The biggest thing is I was happy to watch the kids compete and compete hard. It was a very successful night for us, and I’m looking forward to watching these kids get better each week.”

Crookston will compete in their third and final scheduled indoor meet on Tuesday, April 9 at the Beaver Relays at Bemidji State.
