CROOKSTON GIRLS TRACK FINISHES FIRST, BOYS 5TH, EMMA BOROWICZ BREAKS SCHOOL RECORD

The Crookston Pirate Girls Track team finished first place, edging West Marshall by four points and the Pirate Boys finished fifth out of five teams at the West Marshall Invitational today at the Warren High School.  Emma Borowicz broke the Crookston Pirate Girls Track team pole vault record.

GIRLS
The Pirate girls had a record breaking performance from Emma Borowicz with a school record vault of 9-4 in the pole vault, breaking Shannon Dillabough’s record of 9-3 that was set in 1998.   “Emma Borowicz had a great meet and to break the record is awesome,” said Coach Amy Boll. “She looked confident out there today and she did a great job.”

Kailee Magsam ran a tremendous race in the 400 meters to finish first place. “I thought she had a great race,” said Coach Boll. “She is a great mid-distance runner and is a solid runner.  She had a great time and a great all-around performance.”
Breanna Kressin won the 100 hurdles. “She was three stepping all the way through and had a great rhythm,” said Coach Boll. “She had a good start and a great performance.”

Ally Perreault finished first in the shot put. “In the shot put she did really good,” said Coach Boll. “It was a good performance and had her personal best this season.”

Boll said she there were some other really good performances. “I thought Ashlyn Bailey did good finishing third place in the 100 meters.  To get third as a seventh grader is pretty impressive.  Amelia Overgaard had a good meet for us too.  She ran hard and competed very well.”

BOYS
Crookston’s Noah Kiel won the 100 and 200 meter races and the 4×100 relay team of Andrew MacGregor, Caden Boike, Easton Tangquist, and Gabe Montieth; and the 4×200 realy team of Andrew MacGregor, Caden Boike, Easton Tangquist, and Noah Kiel all finished first.  “Our sprinters are running well and we are lucky to have some speed on the team,” said Coach Wayne Folkers. “I thought Noah ran well in the 100 and 200 even though he is still kind of stuck in his starts but we will get that better by sections.  The 4×100 and 4×200 relays ran okay.  We were working on the expanded exchange zone.  Both relays need to work on the handoffs because they aren’t as crisp as we will need.  As we get closer to sections we will need to get them cleaner.”

Karsten Isaacson finished second place in the 800 meters and high jump. “Karsten has been pretty steady this year.  In the high jump he didn’t go as high as he wanted to,” said Coach Folkers. “He has been working with Mr. Brendan on his approach so he is getting used to that and once he does he will see some improvement.  Karsten also had a personal record in the 800 so he was pretty excited.”

It was a fun meet according to Coach Folkers. “We had fun and it was the first time we didn’t have to have the masks so that was fun,” said Coach. “The weather was gorgeous and the boys competed hard today so it was a great day.”
