CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT ORCHESTRA WINS AWARDS

On Wednesday, April 19, the Crookston High School Concert Orchestra traveled to Alexandria, where they competed in Region 8AA Orchestra Solo and Ensemble Contest.  Crookston had nine entries perform solo and small ensemble pieces for judges, which were then scored out of 40 based on factors such as tone quality, intonation, rhythm, balance/blend, technique, interpretation/musicianship, and bowings.

Performances that earn a score of 35-40 points receive a Superior Rating, scores of 28-34 receive an Excellent Rating, 22-27 points is a Good Rating, and 21 or below is a Fair Rating.  The Pirates did a fantastic job, receiving three Superior ratings and six Excellent ratings.

Meliyah Durham-Moore: Cello Solo
Isabelle Smith: Viola Solo 

Excellent Ratings:
Autumn Hanson: Viola Solo
Naomi Johnson and Meliyah Durham-Moore: Cello/Bass Duet
Samantha Rezac and Emily Shea: Viola Duet
Zachariah Plante: Violin Solo
Maddie Harbott and Naomi Johnson: Bass Duet
Samantha Rezac, Emily Shea, Thor Harbott, and Tatum Lubinski: Viola Quartet 

Other schools competing included Fergus Falls, Alexandria, Thief River Falls, Moorhead, and Bemidji.
