CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL SPEECH TEAM HOSTS FIRST HOME MEET, FINISHES 2ND

On Saturday, February 18, Crookston hosted its first varsity speech tournament, with nine teams competing. Competing at the tournament included: Blackduck, Breckenridge, East Grand Forks, Fosston/Bagley, Red Lake County, Roseau, Thief River Falls, Warroad, and Crookston. In total, 83 students competed in 90 events, with all 13 MSHSL Speech categories represented.
Crookston finished second place in the team sweeps.  All the Crookston results are below –

Zara Baig and Sam Rezac 1st place in Duo Interpretation
Brandon Wandrie 1st place in Original Oratory
Zara Baig 2nd place in Humor
Sam Rezac 2nd place in Storytelling
Shayla Azure and Zac Plante tied for 3rd place in Humor
Julia Buhler 3rd place in Great Speeches
Ciaran Mulvey 3rd place in Prose
Mareile Meyer 4th place in Poetry
Lincoln Waldal and Tessa Weber tied for 4th place in Discussion
Maddie Harbott 6th place in Discussion.
Shayla Azure and Hayley Leckie also competed in Drama. 

“A special thank you goes out to the family of speech students for donating to the judge’s lounge, PFAB for their continued support of CHS Speech, the staff, and administration at Crookston for their work and support, and everybody else who made it a successful tournament,” said Coach Brandon Adams.

Crookston’s tournament marked the halfway point in the Speech season, and next week CHS students will be competing at Bemidji.
