CROOKSTON HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS MAKE NEW SIGN FOR LOCKER ROOM AT CROOKSTON SPORTS CENTER

More students in Travis Oliver’s Community Projects Class at the Crookston High School have finished projects that they’ve been working on. The class consists of groups of students who do different projects based on the community’s needs and ideas that the students come up with.

The most recent project completed by members of the class was a new sign for the Boy’s Hockey Locker Room at the Crookston Sports Center. The sign is wood boards painted navy blue and put together with the phrase “Crookston Pirates” on it and a Pirate logo in the middle. The letters on the Pirate Logo were then epoxied Gold. Oliver said he is once again proud of these students and their work to complete their project. “The sign looks great, and the boys put a lot of hard work into the project,” said Oliver. “It turned out really well, and I am proud of their dedication and commitment.”

The students involved with the project were Senior Samuel Stewart, Junior Jack Doda, Junior Jaren Bailey, Junior Jackson Demarais, and Junior Hunter Knutson. Every student had a different role throughout the project, and Jack Doda explained what the groups’ process was. “The project didn’t take too long to make,” said Doda. “We just CNC routed the letters and the Pirate Head, and then the epoxy probably took the longest, which we did after we painted the boards. And then Hunter (Knutson) did the CNC routing on the letters for us.”

All five group members were happy with how the project turned out and are already looking at other projects they could work on for the Crookston Sports Center. Senior Samuel Stewart mentioned his role in the project wasn’t as big as others, but he was pleased with how it turned out. “To be completely honest, I didn’t have a big role like the other guys,” said Stewart. “I just helped out and carried stuff around and cleaned stuff up for the guys when they needed it. It looks good, though, and I think Mr. Oliver is happy with how it turned out.”

The project originated from there not being a sign in the locker room, and the boys wanted to add something that would help them leave their mark for years to come. Pictures of the sign can be found down below. We will be continuing to check back with Oliver’s class as more projects continue to be completed.
