Crookston High Schools Beginning Welding Class gets visit from Certified Welder

On Thursday, November 7, Crookston High School Industrial Tech Teacher Travis Oliver welcomed Tim Hegg, a foreman for ICS Construction in Grand Forks, to his Beginning Welding Classes.  Hegg, a certified welder in many different areas, has been in construction for over 35 years.  Currently, in the Beginning Welding class, Oliver and his students are working on MIG Welds, also known as wire welding.  Oliver invited Hegg to class to grade his student’s welds and offer them constructive criticism on how they are welding and what he sees when looking at the welds. Oliver says he relies on industry to improve his classes and updates.  Currently, the class is running .035 wire, and Oliver had Hegg look at the practice welding pad and a butt joint weld.  Oliver sends out a big thank you to his brother-in-law, Josh Wieland, a Project Manager at ICS, for lining up Heggs’s visit.
