CROOKSTON IN FLOOD WARNING – RED LAKE RIVER LEVEL PREDICTED CLOSE TO RECORD BY MONDAY

The National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT for the Crookston and the surrounding area.

* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE…Portions of Minnesota and North Dakota, including the following counties, in Minnesota, Beltrami, Clearwater, Mahnomen, Norman, Pennington, Polk and Red Lake. In North Dakota, Grand Forks and Traill.

* WHEN…Until 400 PM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS…Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…

  – At 432 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen.

  – Some locations that will experience flooding include…Crookston, Mayville, Ada, Hillsboro, Fosston, Red Lake Falls, Bagley, Mahnomen, Thompson, Fertile, Hatton, McIntosh, Portland, Halstad, Clearbrook, Erskine, Oklee, Fisher, Island Lake in Mahnomen County and Buxton.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Safety message – Turn around, don`t drown. Don`t travel through flooded areas. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
