Crookston American Legion Nels T. Wold Post 20 had over 10 errors in two games and Fosston used it to their advantage as they completed a sweep with 15-7 and 7-4 victories in games played in Fosston.
GAME ONE –
The first two Fosston batters were retired, but the wheels fell off the Crookston defensive bus as they committed five errors and gave up four runs in the inning and Fosston took a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.
After a scoreless second inning, Crookston’s bats came alive. The leadoff batter was retired before Gunner Gunderson singled and Alex Longoria hit a home run to bring Crookston within a 4-2 deficit. Jacob Miller followed with a single and Cade Coauette doubled to score a run. Crookston went deep again as Brooks Butt hit two-run home run for a 5-4 lead. The next two batters struck out.
Fosston responded in a big way in the bottom of the third as the leadoff batter reached on an error and that set the tone for the rest of the inning as they scored eight runs to take a 12-5 lead.
After a scoreless fourth inning, Crookston got back on the board in the fifth inning when Alex Longoria had a bloop single and Jacob Miller blasted a line drive down the left field line for a double to score a run to get within a 12-6 deficit.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Fosston answered with runners at the corners a Crookston throw to first was off the mark for another error and a run scored. Fosston had bases loaded after a walk with one out and another run scored on a ground out and the winning run was on second base, but the next batter was retired and Fosston led 14-6 after five innings.
Crookston was held scoreless in the top of the sixth inning, but Fosston started the bottom of the inning with a leadoff homerun from Trey Boushee, but that is all they would get in the inning for a 15-6 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning, Alex Longoria his second homerun of the game to bring Crookston within a 15-7 deficit, but that would be all they could muster as Fosston held on for a 15-7 victory.

GAME TWO –
Crookston got on the board right away in the second game when Alex Longoria was hit by a pitch and stole second base. Jacob Miller doubled to score a run and later scored on an error and Crookston had a 2-0 lead.
Fosston answered with three runs in the bottom of the first inning with back-to-back walks and the next batter reached on an error that allowed a run to score. Two more runs scored on a single and Fosston led 3-2.
Fosston added another run in the second inning to take a 4-2 lead.
In the top of the third inning, Crookston’s Miller singled, Cade Coauette was hit by a pitch and Brooks Butt hit a bloop single to right field to score two more runs to tie the game at 4-4.
Fosston took the lead when Lance Balstad crushed a line drive over the left field fence for a 5-4 lead. Fosston added some more runs with a couple of hits and a wild pitch for a 7-4 lead.
Crookston tried to mount a come-back in the top of the fifth inning when Alex Longoria scored on a Brooks Butt single to get within a 7-5 deficit, but that is all they would score and Fosston held on for a 7-5 victory to complete the sweep.
Crookston drops to 6-7 on the year. Fosston improves to 5-0 on the year.
