The Crookston American Legion Post 20 Baseball team snapped a seven-game losing streak in dominant fashion as they took down Fosston 10-0 in five innings at Jim Karn Field on Friday.
FIRST INNING-
Fosston was sent down in order in the first inning on two strikeouts and a groundout.
In the bottom of the inning, Crookston got a Dexter Janek single and a walk to Matt Contreras to put two on, before a throwing error on an attempted steal made it 1-0. After a walk, Cody Demerais would then deliver a two-run single, giving Crookston a 3-0 lead. Crookston threatened again, but could not score again in the inning.
SECOND INNING-
Fosston got a leadoff walk to open up the second inning, but Matt Contreras then got two strikeouts and a force play to quickly end the frame.
After a strikeout started the bottom of the inning, a Dexter Janek double and a Matt Contreras triple made it 4-0 Crookston. After this, a throwing error scored Contreras, giving Crookston a 5-0 lead after two innings.
THIRD INNING –
Matt Contreras continued his dominant start to this game, striking out the side in the top of the third inning.
Crookston struck for four runs in a wild bottom of the third inning, led off by an Ethan Lanctot triple. Dexter Janek drove in a run with a double, Davin Janek did the same with a single, and two runs scored on a wild pitch, giving Crookston a 9-0 lead after three innings.
FOURTH INNING-
Contreras set Fosston down in order once again in the fourth inning, while also recording two more strikeouts to increase his total to nine.
Crookston was set down in order in the bottom of the fourth on just 6 pitches, as reliever Gabe Baumann induced two popouts and a flyout.
FIFTH INNING-
In the fifth inning, Fosston started to get some fortune at the plate. After Contreras issued a one-out walk, consecutive hit batsmen with two outs loaded the bases. Contreras buckled down, though, and got his eleventh strikeout of the day to leave them loaded and keep Fosston off the scoreboard.
After a leadoff flyout, Contreras tripled and Davin Janek drove in the winning run, giving Crookston a 10-0 victory via run-rule.
Crookston improves to 8-13 on the year and will take on Thompsom in the regular season finale on Monday.
