CROOKSTON LEGION BASEBALL TEAM WALKS TO A SEASON OPENING VICTORY

The Crookston American Legion Post 20 baseball team opened the season with a young and inexperienced Clearbrook-Gonvick team and it showed as Crookston cruised to a 30-0 victory in five innings at Jim Karn Field.

Crookston scored nine runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Crookston led off with a walk, the first of 20 walks or hit batters in the first three innings.  Eight of the first nine batters scored and Crookston led 9-0 after one inning of play.

In the second inning, Blake Melsa led off with a single, after the next two Crookston batters were retired, Lukas Miller singled.  After a walk to load the bases, Jacob Miller singled to score a run.  Ashton Larson singled to score two more runs for a 12-0 lead.  Alex Longoria followed with a single to score a run and Cade DeLeon singled in a run and another run scored on an error for a 15-0 lead through two innings.

Crookston went to the bench in the second and third innings and loaded the bases on walks and a hit batter.  In between walks, Crookston had some base hits and a triple from Gavin Hlucny to score three runs and after they batted through the lineup twice in the inning, Crookston scored 13 runs and led 28-0.

Clearbrook-Gonvick finally had their first hit of the game in the fourth inning, but that would be it.
Crookston added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning for a 30-0 lead.

Clearbrook-Gonvick wasn’t able to score in the fifth and the game was called due to the 10-run rule which begins in the fifth inning.

Crookston improves to 1-0 on the year and will have a much tougher task on Monday when they travel to Argyle to take on the Stephen-Argyle Legion team for a double-header.  You can hear the games on KROX Radio.
