The Crookston American Legion Nels T. Wold Post 20 baseball team is playing in the Dickinson, North Dakota Legion Baseball tournament this weekend where they will see some tough competition. Crookston lost to Billings, Montana 15-1 and lost to Miles City, Montana 13-7.
GAME ONE VS BILLINGS-
After two scoreless innings, Crookston scored the first run of the game while taking advantage of Billings pitcher control problems. Jacob Miller, Cade Coauette, and Brooks Butt walked to load the bases. After a strikeout, Carter Bruggeman walked to score a run and Crookston led 1-0.
The lead didn’t last long for Crookston as Billings scored two runs in the bottom of the inning with a single and a couple of passed balls to score a run. The next batter walked, advanced to second and third on passed balls, and scored on a wild pitch for a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth inning, Billings scored seven more runs. It started with a walk, an error, a hit batter and two runs scored on a double. After a strikeout, they followed with a single, a hit batter, and a walk. Billings drew another walk to score a run to take a 7-1 lead.
In the fifth inning Billings scored two more runs. With one out, they reached on a hit batter and a single to score a run. Another run scored after an error and a single for a 9-1 lead.
In the sixth inning, Billings drew a walk, a hit batter, a single, double, another double, a triple, walk, and a double to score six runs to take a 15-1 lead. Billings won by the same 15-1 score.
Crookston drops to 7-9 on the year and are playing Miles City Montana at 7:00 p.m.

GAME TWO VS MILES CITY –
After a scoreless inning, Crookston started the scoring with two runs in the second inning. Carter Bruggeman walked with one out and Ashton Larson singled. Jackson Demarais grounded out and scored Bruggeman and George Widman doubled to score another run and Crookston took a 2-0 lead.
Mile City answered in the bottom of the second inning. The leadoff batter walked and advanced all the way to third base on a passed ball and scored on an error to get within a 2-1 deficit.
Crookston got back on the board in the third inning when Jacob Miller singled, Cade Coauette walked, and Cade DeLeon grounded out and Miller scored for a 3-1 lead.
Crookston added another run in the fourth inning when Widman reached on an error, Alex Longoria walked and Miller scored to score Widman for a 4-1 lead.
Miles City responded with a couple of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with a leadoff walk, a single, a walk, and after the second out of the inning a two-run scoring single to get within a 4-3 deficit.
Crookston added to their lead in the top of the fifth inning. Brooks Butt led off with a single, Bruggeman doubled to put runners at second and third base and Demarais knocked in both baserunners with a single and Crookston had a 6-3 lead.
Miles City broke the game open when they scored 10 runs in the bottom of the inning. The inning started with four walks in a row. After a strikeout, Miles City had a two-run scoring single, followed by a walk and a double to score some more runs. The next two batters walked and were hit by a pitch before another run-scoring single. The next two batters walked which was followed by a hit batter to score all the runs in the inning for a 13-6 lead.
Crookston had some work to do in the top of the sixth inning while trailing by seven runs. Longoria led off with a walk, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on an error. Crookston loaded the bases, but they couldn’t score another run and Miles City held on for a 13-7 victory.
Crookston drops to 7-10 on the year and will play Sheridan, Wyoming on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
