CROOKSTON PARK & REC BOARD HEARS UPDATE ON SUMMER ACTIVITIES/JIM KARN FIELD LIGHTING

The Crookston Parks & Recreation Board met on Monday night inside the Crookston City Hall Council Chambers. There were three main agenda items.

DIAMOND 1

The first item on the agenda was an update to the board on Diamond 1 at the Ray Ecklund Complex. According to Crookston Parks & Rec Director Jake Solberg, the plan is to transition the Crookston Pirate Softball team over to this diamond where they will play their home games. “A couple of weeks ago me and Corky (Reynolds) sat down with Superintendent Dave Kuehn and discussed bringing the varsity softball team over to this field so they can play their games,” said Solberg. “This entails getting dugouts in place. The School District will purchase the materials and then the Parks & Rec staff will build them. Along with that, we will be putting some protective netting up, and then in the future will discuss adding some new fencing and making that field into a great spot for our varsity softball team but also our youth as well.”

Depending on how quickly things go, varsity games could very well be played on that field later this year.

REGISTRATIONS/ACTIVITIES

The second item on the agenda was an update on summer registration and activities. According to Solberg, it is going well so far, and he is hopeful all parents get their children signed up ahead of time, so the department knows what to prepare and plan for. If you have any questions about how to get signed up, you can contact the Crookston Parks & Rec Department at 218-281-1232.

KARN LIGHTING

The final item on the agenda was informing the board when Musco Lighting will be driving up to work on the lighting at Karn Field. “I reached out to Musco Lighting today and the plan is for them to come up on June 6 as of now to work on the lighting,” said Solberg. “If the weather isn’t good obviously that day may change. The plan is to have them fix the four harnesses that they found to be a problem the last time they were here in the summer, and then also adjust where some of the lights are pointing so that our bullpens are lit up better for evening games.”

All three items were informational/updates, and no action was needed from the board.

The next board meeting will take place Monday, May 15.
