Crookston Pirate Baseball thumped by EGF

The Crookston Pirate Baseball team struggled in all facets of the game on Tuesday as the East Grand Forks Green Wave cruised to 19-4 and 15-0 victories in a Section 8AA doubleheader played at Jim Karn Field in Crookston.

FIRST INNING-
East Grand Forks took advantage of Crookston’s control issues on the mound as the first batter walked. The next batter reached on an error on the third baseman and a run scored on another error on the left fielder to give the Green Wave a 1-0 lead. The next two batters were hit by a pitch before Cole Schmiedeberg tripled to score three runs for a 4-0 lead. The next two batters struck out. The next batter walked to load the bases before Jordan Nowacki singled to score a run. Noah Frize was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Noah Frize was hit by a pitch to score another run.
East Grand Forks pitching had some issues with control in the bottom of the inning as Jay Reese and Parker Kelly walked. Matt Contreras hit a ground ball to the shortstop and reached on an error. Greyson Ecker grounded out and a run scored to bring the Pirates within a 6-1 deficit. The next two batters struck out.

SECOND INNING-
The first two East Grand Forks batters were retired before Brady Anderson singled and the next batter flew out.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion with three strikeouts in the inning.

THIRD INNING –
The first two batters flew out for East Grand Forks before Jordan Nowacki walked, Noah Frize singled in a run for a 7-1 lead. Rylee Hams was hit by a pitch and Jace Van Eps walked to load the bases. Schmiedeberg had a bases-clearing triple in the first inning and this time he had a bases-clearing double to knock in three more runs for a 10-1 lead. Schmiedeberg would have had a triple, but tripped over second base and had to stay there. The next batter flew out.
Crookston’s Jay Reese led off with a double and scored on a Contreras groundout to get within a 10-2 deficit. The next batter struck out and the inning was over.

FOURTH INNING-
East Grand Forks’s McDonald doubled to lead off the inning. The next two batters were retired before Nowacki walked. The next batter reached on an error and two runs scored for a 12-2 lead.
Crookston’s Lucas Perala reached on an error before Carter Fee singled to left field. Perala was thrown out trying to reach third base. The batter struck out before Cody Demarais singled to right field to score a run to get within a 12-3 deficit.

FIFTH INNING-
East Grand Forks’ Van Eps started the inning with a single before Schmiedeberg and Anderson walked. A run scored on a wild pitch for a 13-3 lead. After a flyout, Chayson Boespflug walked and another run scored on a wild pitch. After a strikeout, Noah Frize singled to score a run and Rylee Hams and Van Eps doubled to score three more runs for a 19-3 lead.

In the bottom of the inning, Reese and Kelly singled to get things going. After a strikeout, Isaiah Donarski hit into a fielder’s choice and a run scored to bring Crookston within a 19-4 deficit. The next batter lined out and the game was over with East Grand Forks winning 19-4.

Game 2 –

FIRST INNING-
East Grand Forks got things going right away with singles from Nowacki and Noah Frize. The next batter was out on an infield fly. Van Eps was hit by a pitch and a run scored on a wild pitch. Anderson doubled to score three runs for a 4-0 lead. McDonald and Boespflug singled to score a run and another run for a 6-0 lead.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion in the bottom of the inning.

SECOND INNING-
The first Green Wave batter struck out before Hams reached on an error, Van Eps reached on an error and Schmediberg was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Anderson doubled to score three runs for a 9-0 lead. McDonald tripled to score a run another run scored on a wild pitch. Boespflug knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly for an 11-0 lead.
Crookston’s Greyson Ecker led off with a walk. After a strikeout, Ecker was picked off. Fee walked and Demerais singled before Conner Hanson walked to load the bases. The next batter struck out.

THIRD INNING –
East Grand Forks’ Nowacki led off the inning with a single before Noah Frize and Hams tripled to score two runs. Another run scored on an error and East Grand Forks led 14-0. After the sixth Pirate error of the game, the next three batters were retired.
Crookston’s Reese walked to lead off the bottom of the inning. The next batter hit into a double play. Contreras singled to right field before the next batter flew out to left field.

FOURTH INNING-
East Grand Forks’ first two batters were retired before Carter Magnell doubled to left field. The next batter struck out and the half-inning was over.
Crookston was retired in 1-2-3 fashion fashion.

FIFTH INNING-
The Green Wave’s Micah Frize led off with a single before the next two batters struck out. Rieckman walked and Boespflug singled to score a run for a 15-0 lead.
Crookston’s Hanson doubled before the next three batters were retired and East Grand Forks won 15-0.

Crookston drops to 3-11 on the year and will host Bagley on Thursday. East Grand Forks improves to 11-3 on the year.
