CROOKSTON PIRATE BOY’S GOLF WINS THE PROWLER INVITATIONAL

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Golf team won the eight-team Thief River Falls Prowler Invitational at the Thief River Falls Golf Club.  Crookston was tied with Roseau for the best score with a 325, but Crookston won the tie-breaker to earn the top spot.  The teams had to go to the sixth or seventh tie-breaker to decide the top team and Crookston received the top spot. “It was actually Trey the got us the win in the tie-breaker after we compared all the scores and it was finally decided,” said Pirate Coach Steve Kofoed. “Getting first or second doesn’t really matter at this point, what matters is that we had our best score and we showed improvement today.”
Crookston also had the medalist with Trey Christopherson shooting a 79, which was tied with Roseau’s Sam Graftstrom for the top spot, but again the tie-breaker favored Christopherson and he took home medalist honors. “All in all we played better than we have all year and Trey really played well and was consistent today, which was nice to see,” said Pirate Coach Steve Kofoed.   Crookston’s Jack Ricord and Ben Andringa were one shot off the medalist honors with an 80 and finished in a three-way tie for the second-best score. “Ben started on holes six and four-putted and was four over par after two holes and really golfed well after that, so that was nice to see,” said Coach Kofoed. “Jack’s short game was on today and he golfed well today.”
Getting some practice time on the golf course this week was a benefit to the Pirates in today’s round. “The weather was nice and the fact that we were able to get three days of practice in a row really helped our scores today,” said Coach Kofoed. “Trey continues to improve and got under 80 for us today and that was nice to see.”
