CROOKSTON PIRATE BOYS HOCKEY GETS SHUTOUT WIN OVER BAGLEY/FOSSTON, 7-0

The Crookston Pirate Boys Hockey team scored four first-period goals en route to a 7-0 shutout victory over the Bagley/Fosston Flyers at the Crookston Sports Center.

FIRST PERIOD
The Pirates would get the scoring started early as, off an offensive zone faceoff, Garrett Fischer took the puck below the goal line, spun, and fired a shot that banked in off the goaltender and into the net for an early 1-0 Crookston lead. Then, three minutes later, Greyson Ecker took the puck up the ice and went around the net and back to the far boards, turned, and fired the puck towards the net that got redirected by Fischer into the net for Fischer’s second goal just five minutes into the game. Crookston would keep the scoring up, as Jackson Reese got the puck behind the net and fired a pass to Michael Bochow in front of the net, who scored his first goal of the season, making it 3-0 Crookston with the lead.
Crookston would head to the power play as Bagley/Fosston got called for a penalty, and then coincidental minors were called on the Pirates and Flyers, but the Pirates couldn’t convert with the man advantage as the Flyers killed off the penalty. Crookston would go on the penalty kill later in the period, and Tate Hamre went coast to coast with the puck, firing the perfect shot that found the roof of the net to give the Pirates a 4-0 lead. Crookston killed off the penalty and headed into the first-period intermission, still holding their 4-0 lead.

SECOND PERIOD
In the second, the Pirates offense generated a lot of offensive zone time, but Bagley/Fosston’s netminder, Kyle Johnson, was able to stop Crookston’s chances from getting by him. Crookston would get called for a penalty, which sent Bagley/Fosston to the power play for the second time of the night, but the Pirates were able to kill it off. A little later in the period, Bagley/Fosston headed back to the power play, but Crookston killed it once again as the game remained at 4-0 with the Pirates leading. Parker Kelly came up with a couple of excellent saves throughout the period to keep the Flyers off the scoreboard. As the period went on, the Pirates were able to generate some more offense, but Johnson kept Crookston scoreless in the second as the teams headed to the third with Crookston still leading 4-0.

THIRD PERIOD
In the third period, the Pirates continued to throw more shots on net, but Johnson stood tall to the task early in the period. Later in the period, the Pirates kept the puck in their offensive zone as Blake Melsa at the point made a nice move around the defender and fired a shot that was saved, but Bochow was there for the rebound and buried it into the back of the net for his second goal of the night. That gave Crookston a 5-0 lead. About 40 seconds after that, the Pirates were in the offensive zone again, and Lucas Miller sent a pass to the middle that Jackson Reese shot but was saved, and Liam Larson was able to put it into the net for a 6-0 Pirates lead. Later in the period, Kadin Edwards went from his own end into the Pirates offensive zone, cut to the middle, and fired a shot that bounced off
the goalie’s glove and into the net for a 7-0 Crookston lead. Crookston was able to hold for the 7-0 shutout victory at home over Bagley/Fosston.

Crookston improves to 8-6-0 on the season and will take on Little Falls on Saturday on KROX. Bagley/Fosston drops to 5-10-0 on the year and will take on Grafton/Park River tomorrow.
