CROOKSTON PIRATE BOYS SOCCER SHUTOUT BY BEMIDJI

The Bemidji Lumberjacks scored early and had nine players score goals on their way to an 11-0 victory over the Crookston Pirate Boys Soccer team in a game played at the Bemidji Middle School field.  The Pirates were short-handed with three starters gone for various reasons.

Bemidji scored three goals in the first nine minutes of the game with three different players scoring.  Crookston’s defense played better for the next 10 minutes or so until Bemidji started to get some more pressure on the Pirates.  Crookston goalie, Caden Boike, made a few diving saves to keep the score at 3-0 until Bemidji’s Noah Johnson scored his second goal of the game with about 12 minutes left in the half for a 4-0 lead.   Four minutes later, Bemidji’s Bo Hofstad scored his first varsity goal after a nice corner kick from Reed Johnson for a 5-0 lead.  Two minutes later, Bemidji took a 6-0 lead with Reece Melville scored his second goal of the game.  In the final minute of the half, Bemidji added another goal when Wil King had a perfect corner kick and Brodie Pierce used a header to knock the ball into the net for a 7-0 Bemidji lead.  “I told the guys to use this as a scrimmage to get better for the teams that we have coming up the rest of the season,” said Pirate Coach Lon Boike. “Caden and the defenders were busy.  The guys were playing hard, but Bemidji is so skilled and that makes a big difference.”

SECOND HALF –
Bemidji didn’t waste any time as they scored three minutes into the second half with a beautiful kick from Jacob Stanoch for his first varsity goal and an 8-0 lead.  Crookston picked up their play for about 20 minutes until a penalty kick was awarded and Bemidji’s Casey Hiller scored for his first varsity goal and a 9-0 lead. Six minutes later, Bemidji struck again with a goal from Will Greendahl, which was his first varsity goal.  Bemidji worked the ball around mid-field the rest of the game, but the ball snuck into the Pirate zone and Bemidji scored one last goal in the final seconds of the game for an 11-0 victory. “Bemidji is a very good team and they pretty much scored at will,” said Coach Boike. “Our guys played hard until the end and we moved some guys around and saw some good things, so it wasn’t all bad today.”

Crookston drops to 0-6 on the year and will host Detroit Lakes.  Bemidji improves to 2-6 on the year.
