CROOKSTON PIRATE BOY’S TENNIS FALLS SHORT AT #9 PINE CITY

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Tennis team played well but were still shut out 6-0 by the #9 ranked Pine City Dragons in a dual played in Pine City.  The seventh match (fourth singles) was still being played and was called because of rain.

The teams had four courts available and the first and second singles and first and second doubles took the court first.  Crookston played some competitive sets, but in the long run, Pine City was too strong and won the first four matches to take a 4-0 lead and technically win the match.  Pine City won the final three matches to complete the sweep for a 7-0 victory.  “Pine City is a great team and they are ranked in the top 10 so we knew coming in it would be tough and all the matches were competitive,” said Pirate Coach Cody Brekken. “We played a lot better today.”
In doubles, the second doubles team of Mason LaPlante and Robert Janorschke lost a good battle by a score of 6-3, 6-2 and the third doubles team of Logan Johnson and Chris Kazmierczak also had a competitive match and lost 6-2, 6-2.  “Those two doubles teams played well today and the net players played better,” said Coach Brekken. “They played competitive, longer matches and they had some longer rallies.”
In singles, Mason Owens played a solid match at fourth singles before it was cut short because of rain.  “Mason really played well,” said Coach Brekken. “He is used to doubles, but he played hard and played well and it was fun to watch him play.”

Crookston will play in the talent-rich Pine City Tournament on Saturday in an eight-team tournament and four of those teams are ranked.  “We are looking forward to a competitive day,” said Coach Brekken. “It will be nice to see some great players tomorrow.”
