Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis shuts out Osakis

The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team was without their top player, but it didn’t matter as they cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Osakis Silverstreaks in a dual in Thief River Falls.

Crookston’s Reggie Winjum didn’t play, so the Pirates moved everybody up one spot at singles and they dominated all four matches. Grant Funk moved to first singles and he was dominant on his way to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Gunnar Groven bumped up to second singles and crused to a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Sam Widseth played at third singles and shut out his opponent 6-0, 6-0. Teagen Lubinski, who is new to tennis this year, was impressive at fourth singles in a 6-0, 6-0 victory to complete the singles sweep.
The doubles teams outscored their opponents 36-2! The first doubles team of Jack Everett and Hudson Rick made quick works of their opponents in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. At second doubles, Colton Osborn and Alex Zammert coasted to a 6-1, 6-0 victory and the third doubles team of Sawyer Anderson and Jacob Halvorson shut out their opponents 6-0, 6-0 to complete the doubles sweep and the Pirates won 7-0.

Crookston improves to 10-6 on the year and will play Thief River Falls on Tuesday in the last match of the regular season. The Section 8A tournament starts on Monday, May 19.
