FIRST HALF-
Park Rapids scored the first points one minute into the game before Naomi Johnson tied it up at 2-2 one possession later. The Panthers scored the following five points before Katelyn Christensen gave a pass to Johnson, and she scored a lay-up to make it 7-4. Park Rapids went on a 10-0 run, including two straight threes from Gabi Shepersky, to give the Panthers a 17-4 lead. Crookston ended the run when Brooklyn Waldal hit a jumper to make the score 17-6 seven minutes into the game.
Park Rapids went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes, including Shepersky hitting her fifth three of the half before Christensen ended the run with a lay-up to make it 29-8 with seven minutes left in the half. After two Park Rapids free throws, the Pirates scored the following five points off a lay-up from Emma Gunderson and a three-pointer from Isabelle Smith to make it 31-13.
Crookston scored five more points in the half, all from free throws. Turnovers continued to plague the Pirates as they ended the first half with 15. Park Rapid’s Anna Yliniemi scored six points in the half’s final three minutes. Crookston went into halftime down to the Panthers 39-18.
SECOND HALF –
The second half started fast, with the two teams scoring a combined 20 points in the first 2:30. Chloe Boll had a lay-up and a three-pointer, Christensen had a drive and a lay-up, and Gunderson had a two to make it 50-26.
The scoring dried up for the next two minutes just as quickly as the half began. Grace Boll scored five straight points to make it 52-31 six minutes into the half. Chloe Boll hit a jumper to make it 53-33 before Park Rapids went on a 6-0 run. Crookston responded with a 7-0 run, including two three-pointers from Smith to make it 58-40.
Crookston cleaned up the turnovers in the second half, only having four. On the flip side, they increased the number of fouls they had in the second half, with 11. Park Rapids scored the last five points of the game over the last few minutes, and they won by a score of 63-40.
Crookston falls to 2-10 on the season and takes on Rock Ridge on Friday. Park Rapids improves to 5-7.
